Among their notable cuts: wide receiver Josh Reed and cornerback Nathan Vasher.

IRVING, Texas - Patrick Crayton wanted out the minute the Dallas Cowboys drafted Dez Bryant. He finally got his wish Friday, and it might've been worth the wait.
Crayton was dealt to the San Diego Chargers, where he'll be a bigger part of the offense than he would've been in Dallas and still will be playing for a contender. The change in locales isn't bad either, although he's leaving the area where he grew up.

Well folks it happened. Fans frothing at the mouth for football have completed the journey through the desolate off season, past the rugged barriers of spring training, beyond the shores of pre-season and now stand on the brink of the promised land; the NFL season.

The Chargers put the lid on what on the most bizarre camps they've had in years.
They hit the field for good Sept. 13 in a Monday Night game against the Chiefs. Maybe at that point the year will take on a sense of normalcy.
The recently concluded camp will be known almost for as much as who wasn't here and those in attendance.

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Chargers outside linebacker Shawne Merriman(notes) won’t play in Thursday night’s exhibition finale at San Francisco due to an Achilles’ tendon injury, and there’s no guarantee he’ll play in the season opener Sept. 13 at Kansas City.
Merriman knows the team is better served with him fully healthy than playing with a hindrance, so he’s not going to just jump back into the lineup.

The San Diego Chargers got down to the NFL roster limit of 75 players by waiving four players and placing rookie third-round linebacker Donald Butler on injured reserve with an Achilles' injury.
They also signed left-footed punter Glenn Pakulak, who has played for the New Orleans Saints and the Washington Redskins.
The team waived running back Marcus Mason, wide receiver Gary Banks, guard Lee Grimes and linebacker Darry Beckwith.

NEW ORLEANS -- Chris Ivory's college career was a bust.
The Saints gave him a chance anyway, and it is beginning to look like New Orleans may have plucked another exciting running back from the ranks of the undrafted.
Ivory turned a swing pass into a tackle-breaking, zigzagging, 76-yard score, and finished as both the game-high rusher and receiver in New Orleans' 36-21 preseason victory over the San Diego Chargers on Friday night.
