In 2010, Philip Rivers and the Rivers of Hope Foundation held their first Philip Rivers, Old Spice Football Camp.
The event takes place at UCSD, one of the most beautiful spots in southern California; from the college stadium you can see the ocean. My youngest son attended that very first camp, with no idea what to expect. What he came away with are life long memories that he still talks about today.
I have heard him tell his friends on several occasions that he caught 6 of the 9 passes Philip Rivers threw to him. They of course nay say him until they ask me, to which I nod the affirmative. Then they say “Wow! You caught passes from Philip Rivers!”
The one thing that impressed me about the camp, is that unlike many ‘star’ camps where the players show up, give a rah-rah speech about staying in school, eating your vegetables and then leave. Philip stays at the camp all day spending time with and speaking to the kids (telling them to eat their vegetables as well as other things). He is there for the kids, no ifs ands or buts about it.
This year, I really wanted to give a child the gift of attending the Philip Rivers, Old Spice Football Camp. However, when I broached the subject with the administration of...

SAN DIEGO (AP)—The San Diego Chargers say offensive coordinator Clarence Shelmon has decided not to return next season.
Shelmon spent 10 seasons with San Diego and 21 in the NFL. He was offensive coordinator from 2007-2011, although head coach Norv Turner called plays.
In a statement released by the team on Tuesday, Shelmon says, “I’m just done. “You know when it’s time. It’s time for me to go and do some other things with my life.”
Shelmon wasn’t available for further comment, and Turner didn’t return a call seeking comment.
Shelmon coached football for a combined 37 years.
The Chargers fired defensive coordinator Greg Manusky on Thursday and replaced him with linebackers coach John Pagano.

SAN DIEGO (AP)—The San Diego Chargers are staying put next season.
Owner Dean Spanos said Monday that the team will not exercise its right to move the NFL franchise for at least another year.
The Chargers want to allow more time for efforts to build a new downtown stadium. Spanos and San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders say in a joint statement that they will work closely together to make that happen.
Sanders leaves office at the end of this year due to term limits.
Each year through 2020, the Chargers can announce intentions to leave San Diego on condition they pay off bonds that were sold to expand Qualcomm Stadium in 1997.

So what is there to talk about? The 2012 schedule, a meaningless and partially meaningful victory over the Raiders, the NFL playoff situation. Ray and Loren will go over all of that
Oh and if there's any free time we'll talk about the little matter of Norv & AJ retaining their jobs after an 8-8 season.
