Chargers safety Terrence Kiel will plead not guilty today to five felony charges filed yesterday involving the shipment and possession of codeine-based cough syrup, his attorney said yesterday.
The San Diego County District Attorney yesterday filed two charges of transporting a controlled substance and three charges of possession for sale of a controlled substance against Kiel, who was arrested last week and is free on $160,000 bond.
Kiel's attorney, Bob Grimes, declined to comment on the merits or facts of the case except to say the bail was set at $160,000 only because a judge didn't yet have the opportunity to review which controlled substance was involved.
