I don't consider NASCAR a real sport because the car is too big a part of the equation. Best driver ever with a bad car will not win. Mediocre driver with the best car has a good shot.

The point is, it doesn't matter what you consider it. In the professional world of racing your opinion means absolutely nothing, and next weekend the Daytona 500 will be run and more "sports" fans will be there than any other game played on US soil. Of course the one big difference is, racing isn't a game and is deadly. In my experience playing sports and racing, I found racing more of the challenge mentally as well as physically than any game I participated in.

You are right, my opinion means nothing to those who love watching cars drive in circles for several hours. But whenever the next race is, I will completely ignore it, as I have done for pretty much every other race ever. Watching a race is one of the single most boring things I could ever subject myself to.

And to be clear, racing would probably be a lot of fun to do, but I can't fathom how people can sit and watch it. A lot like golf in that respect.

I can accept your disdain for racing but trying to belittle it isn't fair by calling it a non sport. I'm not a fan of basketball or rastling but to say they aren't sports is fair either. Racing is the most fun I ever had in sports, it also the most painful.

I dont consider NASCAR to be a sport. It is a competition, but I never see it as a sport. Never thought too much about it, just know it is not for me... "Hey! Looky there! They are making a left turn!"

In the real world it's as much a sport as pro football, not to mention there is only one race a week not 16 games being played.Besides, you can't play racing but you can play checkers or football.
