No linky, but Smack-saw reported that Rivers will NOT practice at all this week. The Chargers hope that he will be able to participate in a walk through on Friday.

    Anyone else have additional info?

Then I guess Volek is going to have to get it done.

As a Pats fan - if I did have any fear of either QB (which I don't) it would be Volek. A better pure passer and that is what you will need in this game.

Well, I don't know about 1360 but according to the NFL Network, Rivers is expected to play this weekend based on reports by the Union-Tribune.

Maybe my news is older but I just saw it on TV so who knows?

I can understand that. Matt Cassel is a much better pure passer than Brady. Lucky for us Tom isn't hurt.

Smacksaw is not the most reliable source for news. Practice or not, Rivers will play on Sunday.

I'm not trying to talk smack but what is it that people don't like about Rivers? He's 27-8 as starter (including a phenominal record at home), 2-1 in the playoffs and he's had five incredible comeback victories on the road. I don't get it? :icon_shrug:

I agree with the above Pats fan. The difference between Volek and Rivers isn't all that substantial, and Michael Turner can adequately handle the running back chores. Your team might be a little banged up, but the last eight weeks have proven the Chargers are competitive, and they are a distinct threat. Rivers, LT, and Gates are important, but you are fortunate to have the kinds of reserves with the kinds of talent you have. Let's not forget Jackson and the great job Chambers has done. Sproles ain't chopped liver.

If Brady went down, and Cassel had to replace him, the Patriots wouldn't have a chance of a snowball in hell of winning....well maybe a little better chance, but Volek and Turner are more than capable.

I think sitting Rivers all week then forcing him into a game situation in Foxboro in 20 degree weather, and expecting him to perform at a level this game demands he perform, would be folly on the part of your coaching staff.

Smacksaw better be wrong on this one. This definitely sucks.

Philip Rivers better play. Put a huge knee brace on Philip and send him out there. :icon_evil: :icon_sad:

Rivers runs rings around Volek when it comes to running a game and an offense. Volek runs rings around Rivers when it comes to running. That is his only advantage over Rivers. Volek is merely competent beyond that, Rivers is much the better QB. They'll have to lock Rivers up to keep him off the field at the start of the game.

Not so fast. Brady appears on the injury report with "Limited Participation", reason given was "Right Shoulder".

It must be chronic, because he's on that report every week.

That would mean Rivers would be wearing two leg braces? Is that correct?

Memories of Joe Namath...ended up trying to quarterback the Jets on the knees of an 80 year old.

Maybe Volek is a better option. He can move better, he's got a strong arm, and we have MT/LT

Obviously having Rivers out is not a good thing for the Bolts, but Volak ain't bad. Certainly not the drop off you get going Brady to Cassel or Manning to Sorgi.

I think LT, Gates, Williams and Merriman are a bigger deal. Particularly LT.

Gates will be fine. At least a bigger factor this week compared to last week. Williams is fine, it's Norv's MO to rest him during the week. The Burner is a beast and if LT can't go, his physical style will wear down the Pats aging defense. Rivers is the key to the group. The drop-off from he to Volek is drastic, Pats' fans opinions not withstanding.

BayAreaCharger would be able to answer that question with authority.
