So here is where it stems from: https://www.facebook.com/chargers.bolts.5/posts/242418159217982 My call is bullshit, but lets try and fully debunk it first. Cowher was on Fox NFL morning thing yesterday in NY. When did they shut down the airports out there? Is it possible he could have flown out? Dude says he was at Spanos's until 1:30am. Obviously if this has any shred of truth (and just beacuse they talked doesnt mean anything was decided either) they wouldnt announce it until Thursday night, Friday day. Not enough time to put in a coach on a short week. And if it is Cowher, got to expect AJ would be following Norv out of town as Cowher would want more control which means sharing GM powers with AG Spanos probably.
I'm sure there's nothing to this, but I can't help but get excited. I know a lot of you see Cowher as a Marty clone and a retread, but it would just be so cool to see that jaw on our sideline.
There's no reason to think he couldn't have been in NYC on Sunday morning and San Diego that evening. Planes got out of East Coast cities all day yesterday, and it's a +3 hour time difference, meaning that Cowher could've finished up his Sunday reporting at 4 PM PST, gotten on a flight, and been in San Diego by 9 PM PST, or more likely 11 PST if he was flying Delta through MSP. Whether it's true or not, it's certainly plausible.
Makes perfect sense. I mean, it's not like they can talk on the phone about something like this. Gotta do a clandestine meeting at 1:30am. Ridiculous.
I would love to see that look at Rivers after he threw a stupid INT. Norv just looks at him like "Oh well, we'll get um next time buddy!"
Spanos better be throw'n his bank account at him.......Cowher has said publicly how he very much likes his gig at CBS.
"Ok where I'm at right now its bout 4 am list up bolt fans I just got a call around 3:40 am (which I'm sleeping) my buddy (who works in chargers media writings articles/rumors) calls me (cause he always sends me rumors and updates) saying he saw Bill Cowher leaving Dean Spanos house around 1 30ish am, my buddy tried talking to him no answer but seems like he was being interviewed for Chargers head coach job. I believe this is the end of the Norv era" Sounds to me like Cower is bangin Spanos. Weird, but to each his own.
Dean Spanos should be talking to people he trusts to get their opinion on how to fix this mess. That doesn't mean that Cowher is interviewing for a position...... providing the rumor is true.
Dean won't be able to hire a legit coach before the end of December at the earliest. If we're hiring someone before the end of January, it's an assistant from a non-playoff team, or someone who was fired.
I'm not talking about hiring anyone now....... I think he's just getting advice from people he trusts.
That's pretty nice of Cowher to show up on Dean's doorstep at that hour, but then, I'd want to be 3000 miles from the Eastern Seaboard right about now too if I were Cowher.
I just heard from some unreliable sources (probably the same ones that inspired this) that Jimmy Johnson is thinking about coaching again, and looking West... And somewhere a phone is ringing at the Schottenheimer residence too...
While this is all probably a bunch of bullshit, I think we'd all like to think Spanos is up late and working hard trying to find a fix for the **** they're shoveling down at Chargers Park now. Obviously nothing is gonna happen until Friday morning at the earliest. Would love for one of these random rumors to come true and for Norv to be eating an early bird special at Denny's come Friday instead of coaching. No friggin clue who would be calling plays but at this time I just dont care.
It definitely sounds like bull ****. I would love to have Cowher here though. He's teams had a lot of toughness and discipline to them. Cowher42012
Martyball is looking awfully attractive after these last few weeks. You think there is any chance Marty loses that Saints or Broncos game? Marty would have run and run and run and milked every second off the clock. Boring but effective.
There were also other "conditions" that Cowher has mentioned that would need to be in place before he would agree to come back to coach, one of which was to be close to the east coast where much of his family resides. And as it has been mentioned, numerous times before knowing Spanos, he will go cheap and Cowher will not be cheap, thus, Cowher will not be coaching the Chargers anytime soon.
