The worst time I ever had at a concert was sitting through Poison, Warrant, and Trixter. :icon_eek: :icon_eek: This girl I was dating at the time bought tickets and her friend bailed on her. So I agreed to go as a favor for her.
It was awesome. I saw them at a theater in DC that housed about 2,500. They reenacted a lot from the movie and the music sounded great. What really was amazing was the the crowd was all aging hippys. You really would have believed they were a band that's been around since the 60s.
I was so furious that I didn't get to see Venom before they were banned from America. For those of you that don't know the story... The singer said "kill yourself for Venom" at a show in LA and apparently, three kids did it. They were suppose to do a national tour after that show but now they aren't allowed to play in America (until 10 years after that event).
Was that because of the bands or just a bad show? One of the worst shows I saw was when Skid Row opened for KISS & Ted Nugent. Snake Sabo had just broken his leg and their new "lead screamer" managed to ruin 18 & life.
Pat Banatar George Thorogood & the Destroyers Circle Jerks Devo Ramones Sheena Easton Hall and Oates Billy Squier X INXS Greg Allman Band Blondie Deborah Harry Jimmy Cliff Red Rockers Buster Poindexter David Johansen Billy Idol Joe Samples James Taylor Frank Zappa Steel Pulse Black Flag Concrete Blonde Face to Face The J. Geils Band The Pixies Del Fuegos Boomtown Rats The Clash Peter Tosh Patti Smith JJ Cale Dire Straits Vapors John Cougar Mellencamp Dickies Erasure Stray Cats The Knack Between the Years of 1976 and 1986 I was a contract Bodyguard hired by promoters and I worked with most of these bands to help provide security. I worked many venues in San Diego and one in Boston Mass. I worked as bouncer in various locations in California and Massachusetts. Adams Theatre, Community Concourse, Civic Theatre, California Theatre, Roxy Theatre, Golden Hall, SUSD Backdoor, Spreckels Theatre, The Channel (Boston Mass) I never realized that it was this many bands that I was exposed to.
OK, sorry to quote myself but I needed a reference point ... Pat Benatar Jackson Brown James Taylor Bonnie Raitt Derek Trucks Band Elvin Bishop Waylon Jennings Marshall Tucker Band Little Feat (with and without Lowell George) Linda Ronstadt Zen Tricksters Merle Saunders Edgar Winter Firefall Jethro Tull Robin Trower Yes Kansas Earth, Wind, and Fire Parliament Funkadelic James Taylor John Lee Hooker B.B. It took me doing some real soul searching to come up with the bands that I did cause I know there are more. I wasn't always a cop and I can't remember all of them.:icon_party:
Anybody ever seen a concert break out into a riot? I have. SLAYER at the Warner Theater in DC, 88... The seats were bolted into the ground. As soon as the guitars to "Reign in Blood" began, the place when nuts. People bum rushed the stage and you could hear the seats getting crushed. People were literally kicking the seats out of the ground and throwing them to the side as the mosh pits grew. PUBLIC ENEMY at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, 90... Cars smashed and fires in the parking lot after the show. JANE'S ADDICTION at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, 91... The band only did six songs so the crowd flipped their tour bus over. Singer, Perry Ferrel mentioned on a local radio show the next day "the crowd wasn't into it and neither were we... I'm not into fake orgasms, so I left." RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS at Irwin Theater in Philadelphia, 91... Same thing happened as the Slayer concert only worse. Security completely lost control so they called the police. Clubbing, arrests, and ambulances. HOUSE OF PAIN at Hammerjack's in Baltimore, 93... The place has a capacity of 2,000 and about 10 bars. The show never happened as the singer incited a riot. He got on stage and said "the bouncers jumped one of the roadies. You won't get your money back, so bum rush the stage and get your money's worth." Broken glass, people running out with cash registers and bottles of liquor, ambulances, arrests... IT WAS BAD!!! WHITE ZOMBIE at Hammerjack's in Baltimore, 93... If a sold out club with a capacity of 2,000 wasn't enough... they over sold. Both floors were beyond packed and there were people outside with tickets that couldn't get in. The fire department would not allow them to start the show. So they had to announce "we are unable to start the show unless some people will volenterily leave." Needless to say... that didn't sit very well.
The worst was having tickets to Led Zeppelin but it got canceled due to John Bonhams death. Yeah, great memories jogged and more bands like... ELO Jefferson Airplane worst was George Thourully (sp)no good.
Happened to me, too. :icon_sad: If you meant George Thoroughgood, he put on a great show both times that I've seen him.
