Now that merits a Squee!! Hell yea I look forward to watching this project and I guess this means Tolbert is a RB primarily then FB.

J.T. O'Sullivan lands in San Diego

One of the quieter, surprising moves of the last few days was when the Bengals' released backup quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan.

JTO was no great shakes in Cincinnati, but the Bengals are showing a lot of confidence in Jordan Palmer by giving him the backup job. (Or they are simply admitting they are screwed if Jordan's brother gets hurt, so it doesn't really matter.)

We thought O'Sullivan had a chance to land in Chicago with Mike Martz, but there wasn't any room for him there. San Diego found a space for him, though, signing O'Sullivan on Monday.

Billy Volek missed practice Monday according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, which probably necessitated the move. Linebacker Shawne Merriman also missed work Monday and seems uncertain to play after missing the last few weeks with an Achilles injury.

Your 3rd QB should be a young developmental guy, not a 31yr old scrub who's been on 9 different teams.

Before this signing the third QB was David Binn.

Any rate, this might be a testament to Volek's health.

Just how badly beat up is Volek?

I'm fine with the spot being left open, not every team in the NFL carries 3 QBs.

If we get three deep I'd rather see us convert to the wildcat with Naanee at QB.

Still, I think this signing is more about Volek probably being more injured than they're letting on than about signing a "3rd QB"

Not like he will do worse than what Volek has shown recently. Also I been callin for my boy to get more looks in practice at qb. Tho that was before he was one of 4 active starters at WR. Id like to see him continue his progress up the depth chart through production.

Has there been any indication from the team about his availability for game 1? O'Sullivan was a third stringer with the Lions... the LIONS... a few seasons ago. He s-s-s-s--s-ucks!

Let's face it, we're pretty much screwed if Rivers goes down no matter who we have behind him. Even Volek.

After he got cut from the Bungles, I joked with a Cincy fan that things must be bad when Jordan Palmer is picked ahead of you. Now we sign him. Personally I think they shoulda stuck with just Rivers and Volek on the 53 man roster.

ALOT of teams are screwed if their starting QB goes down. Not just us. The Colts, Saints, Patriots, Bengals, Houston, just to name a few who have NO shot at the playoffs without their starting QB. Houston, and New England is questionable in 2010 WITH their starters :yes:

Jeremy Williams would be more help on this roster than than a guy with a career spent on the margins.

I hope we'll never know if this was a good signing or not. It will set up a more interesting battle for the number two slot next year. All three candidates will know the system and have an equal shot.

If Volek is healthy and signed I doubt JT is on the team next year.

After watching Volek in the preseason I figure there is not all that much to choose between them besides Volek's familiarity factor.
