Sean Payton will most likely become a free agent after this season because some voided clause regarding Loomis being suspended. There is no animosity between N.O. And Payton, and many speculate he will be heavily sought after by Dallas.

Think the bolts have any chance to be a player in the Payton sweepstakes? Do you even wantPayton here in SD?

Beat me to it. He'd be the sexy hire but I'm not sure we can outbid the likes of Philly and Dallas for his services.

Lock it until season's end because now that the Norv's players beat the Chiefs he's sticking around for 8 more weeks.

He has a home here in Dallas. No way Dean outbids Jerry.

Who knows, he may still want to coach the Saints?

I wouldn't be surprised to see him stick with the saints....but I'd love to have him in Sd....he has a more aggressive coaching style which I think the chargers are in desperate need of. As much asnif like to see it happen though I doubt it will...with so many other teams in the market for good headcoaches I can't see spanos forking out the money it will take to get him...and as I said I'd bet he stays with no.

He's got a great track record, his system is set up for offensive fireworks, and with a decent/good DC this is a coach that can take OK teams and turn them into incredible teams. Don't forget he took a perennial loser and turned it into a super bowl winner. He's instantly the best choice out there but Dallas/Philly will be tough to beat

The Saints will figure out a way to keep him. He delivered the goods when that city was at its lowest point.

When I saw this come across PFT today, I just knew this place would be ALL OVER it.

Back to reality folks, Sean Payton will be coaching one of two places next year and San Diego isn't one of them.

I can already see how this is going to play out.

Jerry Jones will throw his money vault at Payton.

Then, whomever the Chargers bring in next year (assuming Norv doesn't save his job this year, of course) will forever be compared to Payton (the guy we "should have got") his entire time here by cynical Chargers fans in the same way Norv has forever been compared to Marty by those same fans.

Absolutely yes without a doubt. If by some miricle we do get in the wild card chase, and we're 1 game away in week 17 from punching our ticket, I'd fire Norv mid game if I thought it would lock up Sean Payton for the future.

If Dean goes out and upgrades our coach, no matter if he is a known commodity or not, in time the fans will get behind him. No one knew who Sean Peyton was when he got the job in NO, and Dean needs to go find then next Sean Peyton

Well here's a question to ask. If Sean Peyton is all about the big money that Jerry would throw at him that is one thing. And that's a big "Thing", money. But if you were him, money aside what team would you chose to coach as far as who you think you could be successful with imediately. Dallas is a NFL franchise of legend. The Chargers are.......

I think the big difference is whether or not he wants to deal with Jerry. I think that the big "tie" to Dallas is that he lives there, but I hardly think that makes it a lock. He might like San Diego more because unlike the other 2 cities mentioned, we actually have a QB who doesn't have an "act retarded" switch that's on 50% of the time.

Pass. Doesn't mean he could do it here. New blood, no more former HC's.

He's a successful, elite HC with a modern NFL offensive game plan, which is literally the most successful of all time as measured in yards (and is damn close as measured in TDs). You don't take a garbage team and turn it into an annual playoff contender and SB winner by being a schmuck, and just look at how badly the Saints are doing in his absence. Sean Payton is a huge difference maker, and we'd be lucky to have him.
