Honestly, this is the dream scenario, guys. Pardon me for being such a pessimist, but given our recent past, one cannot really be blamed for believing that the only way to acquire a player like this would be a vast overpayment and/or a mortgage of future cap space/draft picks.

I mean, a one year deal for small money to acquire a player of this talent level AND have him arrive with a chip on his shoulder is just one of those deals that you talk about around the water cooler not actually expecting to ever happen.

The chip on the shoulder is being overplayed, IMO.

You can't sell "news" in the offseason without made up or overblown controversy.

I think Royal played a much bigger part in selling his friend on San Diego.

I really didn't want the Bolts to tighten the handcuffs on themselves any tighter than they already are from past mistakes. The way this deal came together couldn't be much better at this time, it gives the Bolts two pro bowlers in the backfield now.

I'd bet everything Conc owns that Flowers could have just hung out and waited for a big payday and would have gotten it. He seems like a very cool person and liked what he seen and money didn't seem to be an issue, that's a hellofa man in my book.

It also didn't hurt that his former college teammate sold him on the team and the town.

That **** is always overblown when people say it.

I expect everyone to act like they're the best player at their position. They don't actually have to be that, but playing like it and believing it makes them play at their best...generally speaking, anyway. It also depends heavily on the tone and context in which they believe it.

In My opinion, He handled that interview like a pro that has confidence. "let me must say" even had a hint of humor to it. He then went on to give Revis his due. All these drama queen writers and sore *** fans are taking this like a bunch of illiterate fools.. Alright, he is no "Prime time" Or Rodney Harrison, (yet) but hopefully he can make his mark. It's his job to exhibit some sort of self confidence.. He didn't go off like a screaming Sherman.. And at this point in his carreer, he is supposed to put some other corners above himself?
I think he has a great personality. I hope he kicks *** along with the rest of our defense.. And he will..

Personally, I prefer players who let their play do the talking. Flowers is coming off a down year, despite his (undeserved) Pro Bowl selection. I've heard too much of this talk by Chargers in the past who didn't pan out. Just look up the local interviews with Cason and Cox...... same kind of "confident" talk. Talk is cheap. Don't tell us how good you are, show us.

But how is he supposed to show us how good he is right now when they're not playing anything right now?

That's the problem with all the unnecessary hoopla over comments like these.

What typically happens is some reporter looking for an offseason story interviews the guy and asks him some questions, he answers them some perhaps with a bit of added confidence, and suddenly we're talking about the guy like he's too much talk.

It's not like Brandon Flowers bought some air time on National television to tell the whole world how great he is. He answered some questions and, God forbid, decides to say he's the best player at his position and now we're in here questioning his work ethic? Give me a break.

I fail to see how anyone was "questioning his work ethic." Did you actually read my post?

Hey, think what you like, but I've already heard plenty from the guy, and he's not even practiced with the team yet. I know it's a slow news period, but Flowers doesn't have to give out those kinds of quotes. He could play it cool, but he likes to talk. I just know from past experience, that some of our biggest talkers were not our most productive players. I hope Flowers proves otherwise.

I'll be clear, I'm not putting a lot of stock in his quote. It's just a quote. But that's my point, it's not something we need to get in a tizzy about either.

Who gives a crap if the guy thinks he's the best? Do you want him to think he sucks?

I agree that all that matters is what he does on the field, but does that mean we need to get upset about meaningless quotes?

edit: Don't read too much into my use of the word "upset". I obviously don't think you're kicking down trash cans over this or anything.

Certainly not, I'm not losing sleep over it, I just don't care for braggers and talkers.

Having lived through Merriman's yearly BS about how great he was going to be (after he got hurt), when he could barely get on the field. Reading Cason's comments about how "confident" he was when he was stinking up the joint. Seeing Cox's remarks about how good he was, etc. Some of the biggest talkers were guys who didn't produce squat.

What ever happened to quiet confidence? ;)

I just don't care one way or another about it. If the guy wants to say he's the best when directly asked about his confidence level then I don't care.

I'd have a different feeling if he was going out of his way to make sure people know he's the best, like TO would do constantly.

I feel alot better about the verrett pick now, he wont be thrown to the lions now. He has a way better than an average corner to learn from ,i can now see verrett being a key player with flowefs taking him under his wing. im even more excited that attachou learns from freeney, with the vets teaching this draft class, we can return to the 2006 defense if addae makes even more improvements. Im reallu excited about this team. But im pumped because attachou will be a beast

i agree, but it still hurts me as a charger fan, seeing the wat merriman career ended in tenesee, hands down he was my favorite defensive playeron the chargers. HE would have been a hofer if tenesee wouldnt have ruined his knee. God i miss his production and the lights out celebration.

Watching the interview with Flower's I took his statement as tongue in cheek, not even close to bragged style. I reckon some folks can't tell the difference without an :roflmao: inserted for their understanding pleasure.

Didn't watch the interview, only read his remarks...... I rarely watch the NFL Network unless an actual game is broadcast. Its hard to distinguish tone from just the quote...... that's why these [;)] do have a real function.
