SDchargersdude Christopher Smith Chargers who will be free agents after this season: Crayton, Garay, Gaither, Gregory, Hardwick, Harris, Hester, Jackson, McMichael, Tolbert.
Gone: Crayton, Harris, Hester Wishy Washy: Garay, McMichael, Gregory, Jackson Returning: Gaither, Hardwick, Tolbert
hopefully a new GM will sign Jackson long term. If he signs another franchise tag that would be like 12 million, so that's like 23 million over 2 years, might as well give him 50 over 5 years
I hope we can keep V-Jax, Gaiter, Tolbert, And McMichael as the back-up .. the other idk i just hope they dont **** this up... It was painful last night to Watch Drew Brees throw that 9 yard TD pass to Darren Sproles to break Dan Marino's record... 2 Former chargers smh I hate that shyt
Agree with this plus Conc's list. We all need to prepare for at least a couple of pretty mediocre years. More holes than you may realize or that can be realistically upgraded via the draft with immediately positive results. Haven't looked at league-wide free agency with any seriousness yet but will that play a more important role this year? Somewhere in the very near future we need to look at center. NT is still a need/depth issue. WR could quickly become an issue. TE already is unless Sperry has a lot more than we've been given a chance to see. Still need another guy. This doesn't count the obvious needs for OL upgrade, another ILB, OLB, CB, & S. Lotta needs & only a couple of the guys listed above should be looked at as more than a stopgap/backup.
I'm not fussed either way on Crayton. McMichael has done an excellent job of blocking this year (better than Hester actually), for a blocking TE who can also catch a few passes he is actually a pretty valuable backup. I think only 1 of Tolbert and Hester will return, just my gut feeling. I think Mike is a better runner and better FB too, but Hester is good on special teams and probably the cheaper of the two, but we will see. Garay's return will probably come down to just the price. If they can get a good deal they probably bring him back, if not they'd be just as happy to let him bounce. Gaither has played quite well, i think we could retain him quite cheaply, probably a good idea as insurance for Marcus McNeill. I like Steve Gregory, he's an excellent squad player, plays hard, can be relied upon, even played well as a starter, just more suited to being a rotation guy. I'd like to see him back. Lastly, VJ..... The million dollar question, has he earned that big long term deal he's looking for? He's done some good things this year, he's also quit on quite a few plays and had a lot of moments where he doesn't really look worthy of elite money. I'd like to see him back, but don't want the team breaking the bank to get it done.
Keep Gaither, Garay, Tolbert, Mcmichael, Hardwick. The rest can go bye bye. VJ shows up every other game- how in the most important game of the season- do you run the wrong route
Rivers plays MUCH better when VJ, Gates & Floyd are on the field together. They used the franchise tag on VJ this season. Can they do it again next season?
Crayton, Garay, Gaither, Gregory, Hardwick, Harris, Hester, Jackson, McMichael, Tolbert. KEEP Garay Gaither Hardwick Jackson Tolbert the rest can walk
Keep Garay, Hardwick,VJ, Tolbert Stick Crayton in a space ship and blast him into outer space, and the rest can go and F£$%
McMichaels has done very well by us. Great blocking and really good receiving. When Gates was out he did not let there be a big drop off in TE play. He should (I hope) be given some consideration at coming back...
Hester to RB? Hell no. Move him to the unemployment line. Sorry, He has been a roster spot sink since he has been here. He has made some good ST plays but that is it.
Ok, so why keep Hester then? Is Hester really a everydown, or switch up back? Brinkley would not be a real change pf pace back that Tolbert is. If we could get someone big like Summers then that is an option... But I dont see hester fitting in, which means if AJ is here Hester will be retained because he is AJ's boy and everyone loves AJ...
Tolbert needs to get better at holding the ball and actually getting in at the 1. Or else goodbye and so long.
I'm saying it now, someone quote me.. Giving Todman up will haunt us.. you guys wait and see what he becomes in Minnesota.. I'll put money on it.. and the fact we wasted a draft pick, even though it was a six rounder, at least keep the kid, we have 2 running backs questionable/banged up this week heading into Oakland, why not try Todman out for next year? See what they have, Norv's job is as good as gone.. But i forgot Norv is the MAN!! McMichael I actually will keep if we get him on the cheap 1 year deal side.. draft a big receiving tight end like a Charles from Georgia or Eifert from Notre Dame.. and possibly sign Sperry to the Practice Squad! Lol we need some depth at TE because of Gates' issues.. Hester and Crayton GONE.. BYE BYE
No one gave Todman up. Todman was on the roster at the start of the season but hit a ceiling and did not develope as the staff hoped he would. That is why he was send back to the practice squad and Brinkley was brought up. The Vikings signed him off the practice squad. Todman was neither given up, nor cut.
*WR Patrick Crayton--WR depth. No offer. *LB Na'il Diggs--IlB depth. No offer OL Brandyn Dombrowski--OL depth. Keep. NT Antonio Garay--Starting NT. Keep. T Jared Gaither--Starting LOT. Keep. WR Richard Goodman--WR depth. Keep (cheap). Decent on STs too. Sucks at KRs though. SS Steve Gregory--2nd string SS. Keep if cheap. *C Nick Hardwick--Starting C. Offer middling contract. Happy to let him go. DT Tommie Harris--Nickel DT. Bring back for vet min. *FB Jacob Hester--'Starting' FB. ST reg. Offer low contract, let him go if he doesn't want it. WR Vincent Jackson--#1 WR. Assess injury. If good, sign him long-term. TE Randy McMichael--#2 TE. Offer Vet min. *OL Tony Moll--3rd string OL. No offer. OL Scott Mruczkowski--2nd string OL. Vet min. DB Paul Oliver--Backup S. No offer. He'll be available off the street if we need him. TE Kory Sperry--#3 TE. No offer. RB Mike Tolbert--#2 RB. Offer in the 2-3 mill per year range. WR Bryan Walters--WR depth. Minimum offer. LS Mike Windt--Keep. Assume Dielman is coming back, McNeill not. If Hardwick goes, center is top priority in draft or through FA. Draft needs to replace crap starters and guys walking above WR depth, 3rd round on OLB 1st or second round--need a starter ROT 2nd or 3rd round--would be nice to replace Clary ASAP C 1st-4th round depending on Hardwick ILB 3rd-5th round--someone to compete with Mouton/depth SS 1st-3rd round--need a starter TE--3rd-5th round CB--2nd-4th round More draft needs than we have picks. Going to need to look at available FA before the draft.
I like this, except for Hardwick. I'd be PISSED if we let him walk. He's a leader on the team, the only reason our OL has held together this year. He's playing the best football of his career this year he hasn't been injured in 3 years since he was playing at 280 (now up to 310/305). So i'd say keep him and this is what our needs would look like... WR, like you said after the 3rd round OLB 1st/2nd RT 1st-3rd (if Martin/Reiff is there when we pick we must take him) C Not a need, with M Cow, Baxter and Hardwick, we lock Hardwick up for 3-4 years, we're set for a while) ILB 4th round on, depth only, Spikes/Mouton a good combo with Spikes' stregth vs. run, and Mouton strength in coverage, need depth if Diggs walks SS 3rd on (we have bigger needs, and there's just not many if any prospects worth where they are projected beyond the 3rd or 4th) TE Agree completely 3rd-5th (Need a Gates Successor, would love to nab Fleener in the 3rd or Green in the 4th) CB 4th on (Not a big need. I dont understand why people consider this a need. Cason needs coaching to be more consistent, but shows moments of shutdown play, Gilchrist played great, in schemes not fit for their play AT ALL)
