And a few things of note.......

Chargers Release First Official Depth Chart

The first official depth chart for the San Diego Chargers has been released and is available on Chargers.com.
Some of the notes that I noticed from the first official depth chart:
So many things will change as the preseason grind goes, but it is good to see where everyone is at the starting gate.

Andrew Gachkar over D.J. Smith was the only surprise IMO

Well, DJ has only recently has been ready to practice, so it's not that surprising. Things can change pretty quickly though... it's only the 1st depth chart.

I'm guessing DJ and Keiser both climb that list as we get through the pre-season games. Safety is really up for grabs behind Weddle (and I'm sure Brandon Taylor has time to get healthy, you don't cut a #18 from LSU without giving him time to prove it), and from what I have seen at camp Cattouse has been really playing well, he looks a little bigger this year and could be a darkhorse to make it.

VB is right where he should be. Kid can catch and run routes and I wouldn't doubt him being #2 and pushing for #1 next season.

I'm not all that surprised about Addae sitting that far down the depth chart. He's been injured as of late, hasn't he? Given more time on the field, he'll show his stuff, and if Addae is impressing as much as people say he is, there's no doubt that he'll make the final roster.

VB has also missed the last week of practice, may have been enough for Floyd to take advantage.

It's still very early which would make it unlikely that anyone has earned or lost their position just yet. Things should start taking shape after the second exhibition game. McCoy's system of running things should have sunk in by then and the guys should be in football shape for the most part. Those that get it will rise and those that don't will get cut. Should be a fun ride for this Bolt backer.

On rotoworld they keep talking about how Vincent Brown (now that he's back in practice) has time to supplant Malcolm Floyd for the number 1 WR spot.

Is that pure speculation from them or was this said somewhere before by Gehlken, Acee, or any of the coaches?

Haven't heard it from a "professional" source. Floyd is getting up there in age, so you do need to groom a replacement. Sure, you'd hope that eventually that Brown would grow to become that guy, but lets see him stay healthy enough to actually play first.

The hopeful in me hopes that he gets a lot of playing time this season, because I personally want to see what this kid can do, plus I just keep hearing how exciting this kid is in TC. (I hope I'm wrong because that would mean a lot of injuries) But I wouldn't be surprised if Brown and or Allen start a few games this season.

Well, Floyd has certainly missed his share of games too...... that's why good depth is crucial. Luckily, it seems we may actually have that this year at the WR position.

Sounds like Alexander pulled up lame at practice today...

And VB returned to full pads.

Sounds like it was his knee again. :(

    Edit: Not serious, luckily

Mike McCoy confirmed Danario Alexander's knee ailment is nothing serious. Got "dinged."

I've gotta think McCoy is pissed at someone for the misinformation.
