Just read from Adam Schefter via twitter that the Chargers have released Randy McMichael. Sending this from my phone, so if someone could grab a link for me that would be great.
UTKevinAcee @UTKevinAcee “@UTgehlken: Chargers released TE Randy McMichael ... Saves $1.5 million in cap space...” > So they have $11M. $5M more coming (Garay).
Classy to the end...... Randy McMichael, a gritty tight end and strong pass blocker, isn't getting any younger. Clearly, the Chargers are. San Diego has released the respected veteran, a league source said Tuesday morning. The move was expected, as McMichael was due a $250,000 roster bonus, making him bound to be the latest seasoned Chargers veteran to hit the open market. Linebacker Takeo Spikes, 36, and Atari Bigby, 31, were recently released. Nose tackle Antonio Garay, 33, is expected to be. Cornerback Quentin Jammer, 33, and linebacker Demorrio Williams, 32, are among those who will become unrestricted free agents Tuesday. McMichael, who will turn 34 in June, spent three seasons with San Diego. His release saves $1.5 million in cap space. "Wanna thank the Spano family and entire Chargers organization," McMichael said via Twitter. "Been an awesome 3 years. Thanks to all the bolt fans for your support."
Not so sure he phillips wasnt signed to take the randy mcmichael/brandan manumaluena role as a strictly blocking te considering he has 30 catches in 48 career games.... at least i hope thats what hes here for
John Phillips will be playing the H-back role. He lined up at FB and often started there for the 'Boys. Ladarius Green will be out there getting his passes. I see a very increased role for him this year, expect McCoy and Co. to use his size, speed, and athleticism as a big advantage to LB's and DB's.
