The Chargers were able to handle the Chiefs on Sunday despite having just three healthy cornerbacks, but it seems they’d like to be a little deeper at the spot going forward.

The agent for free agent cornerback Chris Carr told Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune that his client will be signing with the Chargers this week. Carr himself sent out a tweet on Monday saying that he was San Diego-bound, although there’s been no word from the team as yet. Carr visited with the team last month and visited with the Jets last week after they lost Darrelle Revis.

Shareece Wright has missed the last three games with a sprained ankle, leaving the Chargers thin at the position. Carr was cut by the Vikings at the end of training camp and cut by the Ravens earlier in the offseason one year after signing a multiyear deal after a strong 2010 season. Carr was hurt for most of the 2011 season, though, and the Ravens decided to move forward without him.

Carr’s signing hasn’t gone down yet so we don’t know the corresponding move to clear space for him on the roster. Norv Turner had a downcast report on kicker Nate Kaeding’s status on Monday, saying that he didn’t anticipate Kaeding being well enough to kick for a while, so that could prove to be where the Chargers make space for Carr.

CB Chris Carr coming to SD for depth...Corresponding move? Could be Nate Kaeding to IR. Kicker has strained groin, seeing specialist Tuesday

nice, Feel good about Novak,, Feel good about Carr.. Now how long will it take to learn the scheme?
he is familiar with Jarrett Johnson, and the other guy so he might not have that much to grow with.:cautious: did I make sense?

Still another year that he could not prove me wrong. :(

I do not think Novak is the answer at kicker after his semi-choke session last season. I do give him props for his piss session though.:D Let us see how this season goes but I think the right thing to do is draft a kicker.

I think he's being signed as a teenager's first car, rather than a mid-life crisis mobile.

Heard that Wright is getting healthier and he's targeting the Broncos game to come back. Still like Carr hope he can push for immediate playing time. Wonder if the team cuts either Brown or Brinkley?

If they IR Kaeding and keep Novak, we still need to cut another no? is Wells back on the 53?, so many roster updates I can't keep up.

They didnt sign Wells back last week because they were getting ready to sign Carr and they felt they could go through Sunday with 3 CB's. So then Nate gets hurt on Friday and they had to use the 53 spot for Nick. Now they have to cut/IR someone before they can officially sign Carr.

Cason is horrible. He needs to be benched. I don't care if it's Carr, Gilchrist, Wright, or anyone else. It can't possibly be any worse than having Cason back there looking stupid every week and giving us no hope that he'll improve in the future. At worst, Carr is the flare shot that Cason should be paying attention to. It means his job is on the line. If he doesn't see that and start working a lot harder in the film room and on the practice field... then he's dumber than I think.

And don't point to the Cason pick as a reason for him to keep his spot. He's been lucky two weeks in a row. And neither pick make up for the amount of yardage and points he surrenders on a regular basis.

He's gotten lucky a LOT from QB's overthrowing him. It certainly isn't always that someone else is supposed to have coverage over the top. I don't think it's a lack of talent - not saying he's overly blessed with athleticism, but he did win the Thorpe award in college. I think a lot of it has to do with just what you mentioned - a lack of understanding his assignments & putting in the film work.

Same issue Cro had before he got his azz shipped out. Difference is Cro flat out QUIT on his team. Yeah, I'm with you. Cason has the talent (as did Cro)...

Cason is always looking in the backfield and hoping he's going to make the big play. He needs to realize at some point that an incomplete pass or at least an immediate tackle after reception is good enough. That too was Cro's problem.

He's faced 3 of the top 20 WRs in the league the past two weeks and they whipped him like he was a rookie. But he also makes the mediocre WRs look like they belong in the top 20.

I'm for anything that is going to give him a wake up call.

I understand & I'm certain that you're with me on this ...... I NEVER want a Charger player to fail. I'm behind them succeeding 110% as long as they are on this team & giving it all that they have.

Cro quit on the team. Screw that - he needed to go. Just watch - if the Jets don't pull it together real quick, he'll quit on them too.

Cason doesn't seem to be a knucklehead like Cro so yeah - I'm pulling for the kid to get it together. But that rope is getting shorter every game that he plays like he has been.

              Micheal Spurlock gets the axe.
I'd post the link, but I'm part of the lazy 47%.

                Should've cut Kaeding instead. ;)

I think Carrs handled punt or kickoff returns in a previous life, could explain Spurlocks exit.

yeah I saw that. Only one reception in the first four games and he managed to fumble that one.Should any of our wr's go down, could be an ideal replacement.

                Huh ??? ......

Paddy, did you say "an ideal replacement" after stating he'd been cut, made ONE catch in 4 games and fumbled that ONE away .............. ?

If thats the case ....how does he make "an ideal replacement" ?

What am I missing here ?

Vincent Brown isn't far away. I reckon that's why Spurlock was expendable and the fact that we have plenty of guys who can return punts and kick offs ie. Royal, Cason, Carr, Gilchrist, Goodman........
