"Chargers Warn Norv Turner That He’s Only Got 6 Or 7 More Years To Get This Right, Or They Might Have To Consider Firing Him" http://profootballmock.com/?p=1608
Ah lets go with 7 more years. That way we can eliminate the reason for not learning anything after being a head coach in the NFL for almost 20 years.
So glad I dumped my season tix this year!.. What else can I say, Chit on me & I'll chit on you. Love the team but the management just falls short!
I hate Spanos! He makes money! If the team is losing he better be losing money! (Article was hilarious)
My wife is likely going to be stationed in San Diego again, and we've decided to not make Chargers' season tickets an expense of ours. I can't even fathom the idea of paying $2000+ to watch these games with my family of three. At this point, I imagine being a season ticket holder is like being me, but someone is pulling a $20 every 10 minutes of game time over the season and setting it on fire in front of you.
nope, just letting you know that every owner makes money on thier team regardless of their records. Obviously some make alot more than others.
A fact I'm well aware of. I've never understood the notion of painting a team owner as a villain for making money.
I could careless about how much he makes. Its the final product and the end results is all that matters.
I completely agree. Which is why it baffles me why so many people bring up the fact that he's still making money even though the team is losing or messing up.
Perhaps because he has his hand out to help pay for a new stadium? Maybe because he was part of the crew that was crying over the share of the pie to be given to the players last year? Just a couple of thoughts.
I definitely have a problem with him asking for money from the city while putting a garbage team on the field.
and maybe because some fans believe all he cares about is making money, and winning is not his priority. I am not taking a stance on that, but I know some fans feel that way
People act like the Chargers will own the stadium and any money used for the project is just going in Dean's pocket, which is utterly un-true. Every single proposal has had teh City of SD owning the stadium and leasing it to the team, so if that is the case, why shouldn't the city pay, at least in part, for something they will own in the end?
But isnt he just like every other owner? And that goes for basketball, baseball, hockey, and football?
Yes, but some owners still put winning as their number 1 priority, like Arte Moreno when he bought the Angles. He spent a ton of money building up the team, getting good players, took losses for a few years, but as the team improved, he started selling more tickets and he started making money as a product of winning. Many believe there are owners that view winning as just just the cherry on top of making money, like the old owner of the Marlins, John Moores, and other owners. I think there are less of them in the NFL since they are required to spend a certain amount. But it is a huge problem in baseball and Basketball where there isn't a hard cap or floor
I think that one similarity between all three sports is that none of them have a cap or floor for coaching or staff salaries. I'm very, very curious about what the Chargers shell out for coaches and FO staff relative to the other teams.
Stadiums are expensive. Hard to blame even a multi-millionaire for wanting a little assistance on the bill. As for the labor dispute, I have trouble sympathizing with players who aren't exactly poor either.
I actually get that, but honestly don't care. The owners will always and forever care mainly about profit. Sure, some become more involved than others in the actual game aspect, but you're being naive if you think even Al Davis or George Steinbrenner don't care about their profit. (Or didn't in Al's case, RIP). You name me one sports owner who is not interested in maintaining a profit and I'll name you a bridge in China I have for sale.
It's harder to do in baseball than in the NFL primarily because of that lack of a cap. It's hard to justify spending the money to compete with the likes of the Yankees and Red Sox even if your number one priority is winning. By the way, Moores didn't become cheap until the divorce. Then it all went to ****.
I want the stadium, and I think it should be downtown, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect Charger fans to want to go to the games when the product on the field sucks, which then decreases the demand for a stadium. I understand that the NFL (and draft) is a crapshoot, but if you've got a SB caliber QB (Dan Fouts, Rivers, Humphries, Brees) and you aren't even making the playoffs, then something is amiss. It's really hard to look at what's on the field and think, "well, this is worth watching." I'd love watching this Charger team if I was a fan of one of our quality opponents though. The Falcons, Saints, and Denver fans must've absolutely loved those games, especially the Saints at home.
