Just saw this from Roman Oben...

ro72: #Chargers have released safety Clint Hart. Solid player who could contribute to any #NFL team. (8 minutes ago from UberTwitter)

    -----------

For all the people who ripped the man apart, are you happy now? I wish him well, he worked hard to get here but it just wasn't working anymore.

Seems like a move to make room on the roster - I wonder what's coming?

    Needs:
    D Line
    RB
    O Line

I dont see us getting a D lineman since we got Boon and Johnson, but you never know. I dont know of any good RBs available, or Olinemen...

    AJ make gold!

Happy no...but this should mean we are atleast making room for someone else and Ellison will be playing...which are both good things for the Chargers.

I'm not happy someone lost their job, but I am glad he won't be starting for the Chargers anymore. It irritated me just to see him on the field.

We should have kept him for depth. If you want to release someone, release Davis.

Feel bad for the guy, but I'm happy we aren't standing pat.

I must say I was more worried about being run over last week than the safety position.

Hope it means another move is coming.

I have a feeling that we are going to see Andre Coleman signed from the practice squad again for the 100th time.

Roman Oben with the scooooop! I'd bet he heard direct from Hart or another player - he's still close with many of them. Twitter is the best :D dont hate participate!

I'm hoping the move means we bring in oline or NT help - unless we go 4-3 I just don't think our current guys can fill the hole left by Jamal (those are some big shoes to fill for anyone let alone rookies/garbage men). Maybe they will prove me wrong to my delight but... not going to count on it.

Oline help would be nice - something is wrong with Dielman... whether it's trying to do too much or injury or whatever... they need someone to step in and step up so we can run the freakin football. LAST in the NFL for rushing - LAST!? This just won't do

I'd hang on to Buster as trade bait, eventho he hasn't performed for us he's still too valuable to just let walk for nada. Hart unfortunately was not.

    Associated Press

SAN DIEGO -- Injury-plagued defensive tackle Ian Scott, who hasn't played since 2006, signed with the San Diego Chargers on Tuesday.

Scott was with Carolina in training camp but sprained his left knee on the fifth day and was later released by the Panthers.

Scott missed all of last season in Philadelphia with a knee injury.

Chargers general manager A.J. Smith didn't return a phone call seeking comment.

He was a fourth-round draft pick by Chicago in 2003 and spent three seasons with the Bears, whose defensive coordinator was Ron Rivera, now San Diego's inside linebackers coach.

In six NFL seasons, Scott has started 33 games and appeared in 49.

The Chargers released rookie cornerback DeJuan Tribble to make room on the 53-man roster. San Diego also released linebacker Eric Bakhtiari from the practice squad.

    Hart cut
    By Kevin Acee

    October 14, 2009, 10:01 a.m.

The Chargers have released Clinton Hart and signed defensive tackle Ian Scott.

Hart had been with the Chargers since 2004 and had been the starting strong safety since the beginning of 2008.

He had become a lightning rod for many issues in the secondary, siome of them warranted and some not.

His shortcomings prompted the Chargers to draft Kevin Ellison in the sixth round in April. It is not known if Ellison or Gregory will start Monday against the Denver Broncos.

The Chargers have signed defensive tackle Ian Scott, who they released last month, for help on their depleted line.

Scott was on the team last season, and up to the 53 man roster cuts this preseason. So he knows the scheme. I am stil not impressed with him, this seems a stop gap at best. We will have to see what happens.

I think we were all a bit surprised when he was cut (like with Kynan Forney etc...) in favor of younger players. My gut says AJ was trying to bring up a young crop of back-ups who would eventually step into more prominent roles - but due to injuries had to step in sooner than expected. Scott knows the system and knows Rivera well, he's a vet and not a personality, a step in the right direction I hope.

Source: Hart informed he's being cut

In a surprise move Wednesday morning, the San Diego Chargers informed starting safety Clinton Hart that he is being released, according to a source.

Hart had spent six years with the Chargers, starting in 33 games over the past three seasons.

According to a source, Hart was surprised by the move. But the decision may have been foreshadowed in the past few weeks, as Chargers coaches were removing him from some of the team's nickel packages for passing situations.

Hart, 32, started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles before moving on to the Chargers.

ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton and ESPN.com AFC West reporter Bill Williamson contributed to this report.

    Happy?

    Actually---->>> Y-E-S.

Clinton Hart found a way nearly every Sunday to get me to jump up and shout "WTF--- Hart you A-hole!" Seemed like he was always in the wrong place- wrong time... and missing the ball carrier with an "ole" arm tackle. His on field errors have been observed by nearly every Charger fan over the past two seasons.

Hart somehow managed to play himself off one of the most underachieving and whimpy defenses in the NFL this year.

I wonder if he is the only guy AJ was referring to when he said "jobs are on the line" or will there be other heads rolling in the coming weeks?

I don't think Merriman should be feeling too secure- just a hunch.

1). In terms of marketability Davis has still some value. Hart has virtually none.

2). Backups should be players that have some upside in terms of development. Here again, Hart has virtually none.

the "happy about a guy losing his job" argument is irrelevant since another guy is getting a job, so it evens out

I am happy he's no longer with the team, hopefully that sends a message to the rest of the underachieving defenders, start Ellison, let him learn under fire
