SAN DIEGO---- You would think it would take a lot to bring a veteran coach like Marty Schottenheimer back to his college days, but all it took after practice Wednesday was being faced with the term "desperate."
" 'Desperate' is your word; that's not my word," Schottenheimer said, stopping a reporter mid-question when she implied that the Chargers are in a "desperate situation."
"I'm an English major, with due respect," he added.
Evidently, Schottenheimer's players studied their lecture notes well.
"I don't think desperate is the operative word to use," linebacker Donnie Edwards said.</blockquote>
