Right now. Interesting, smart guy. You'd think he got his MD from the back of a Rolling Stones magazine, the way some of you armchair Orthos talk. Prob find podcast on 1360 website.

Armchair orthos? He's a hack who has been banned from practicing by multiple hospitals and charged with/settled malpractice claims multiple times.

Well, I take kind of a middle path on this one:

On one hand, I was slightly annoyed by fans making strong anti-Chao statements
that they couldn't substantiate...or seemingly even understand. Just the same old
"I heard something somewhere and blindly believe it" kind of crap I loathe.

On the other hand, in June we did learn (substantiated, even!!) that Chao had lost hospital privileges
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...doctor-chao-hospitals-barred-surgery/2439715/
and that is significant. (Does it validate previous uninformed/unsubstantiated attacks? Not rationally, no)

In short, most doctors who do a lot of procedures will have some unhappy patients.
But Chao appears to have had more than his share, and that, if true, is significant.

But 95% of the anti-Chao stuff prior to late June was mostly under-informed guys pulling stuff out of their asses.

Cool, didnt know that, I am always up for learning, which multiple hospitals has he been banned from? A lot docs have law suits, (esp. High profile ones) as someone who has worked in the legal forum, specifically in medical arena I can attest to that. Many people sue Dr.s for everything, and anything. I am sure there may be merit to some of his lawsuits, maybe all, got any links to those, I'd like to read up on them.

By the way, Rivers, and Hardwick (team union rep) are his biggest supporters, guess they are just naive.

A hack? That's just not an accurate insult.

Dr. Chao was very well respected and a leader in his field. He wasn't just team physician for the Chargers, but also for ESPN’s X Games, USA Sevens Rugby Team and many local universities, as well as being a consultant for the WWE and the USA Olympic Committee. Many professional athletes, not just Chargers and not just NFL, consulted with Dr. Chao.

Almost every MD, even more so surgeon, with a large practice has had multiple malpractice claims. It's just the nature of the business in this sue happy era.

It's not like I'm president of the Dr. Chao fan club. He apparently did and/or does have a substance abuse problem and I thought his troubles were an unnecessary distraction to the team, but I do agree with Fouts that he was unfairly demonized on this board.

I stand by what I said. He's a hack who's poor decisions and negligent care have cost patients dearly. An alcohol problem is not an excuse for the errors he's made with patients AND the subsequent lying about it to try and save his skin.

Pretty all encompassing article here, in particular the most details I've seen anywhere about the Fagan case where his patient lost his leg. http://deadspin.com/the-chargers-doctor-is-a-drunk-quack-why-havent-they-466685771
