Forum CRAWLING...

Guys, is there a reason why this forum is just crawling the last few days? It is ridiculously slow, and it's the only site that I am having that problem with- both at home and work. It there something going on? Is it temporary?

Since the playoffs the number of people on line at any time has shot up quite a bit.

40 users and 60 guests are common now. Dont know if that is it, but it is my guess.

Yes, we've had a problem with the server. Unfortunately the hosting company hasn't been very responsive. I noticed a run away process on our server this morning and rebooted. After being down for about ten minutes the forum came back up and seemed much faster.

After the draft there is a lull on these forums and I have already planned to move to a better faster server then, however if this poor performance continues we may have to do something drastic sooner.

I will try to keep you all updated.

It did not hurt to explain myself a little bit more.

I am serious though that the pages are opening much slower this evening.

I just the last several hours communicating with the hosting company's engineers. This is the third time I've contacted them today (Thursday) and they are finally escalating this to higher level engineers. I have been assured that I will hear back about this situation within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Promises that were made by this company have not been kept, both regarding the level of service and the support that would be given. Unfortunately, we are tied to a contract with them until the end of May. I may consider breaking this contract, but for now I am giving them every opportunity to fix this.

I am also in the process of making plans for this coming year in regards to the website and forum. The budget for hosting is going to be given a big increase. Not to say that the budget for this item was not already substantial, but moving forward we will only be working with hosting companies that have a substantiated track record with this type of website and can meet our requirements consistently, rather than make empty promises.

For now, I am going to push our hosting company as hard as I can for the service they promised. Hopefully we can survive until the contract is complete. I will say this though. Our site and forum should be noticeably faster for the 2008 season.

what can we do?

Email? Spam? Phone calls?

I could not even log on yesterday. I saw some time stamps where some of you posted and I was not able to get to the forums.

I have not seen it this laggy ever. Ouch .... and the playoffs are here .... fuc....

Whatever the hosting company did, the forum seems extremely fast right now. I can verify this right now also with some speed tests I've done. It is currently sunstantially faster than it was. Let's hope it stays this way.
