Sounds like Telesco is in hot pursuit of TE John Phillips....with nobody else.

Free agent CB Jerraud Powers will visit the Cardinals then Chargers.
Both teams are extremely desperate for cornerback help. Arizona has just two under contract for 2013, and both of San Diego's starters from 2012 are free agents. Powers has a staff connection with both organizations.

I was hoping we use ladarius in a bigger role this year and have him learn from gates before he takes over the show but i guess the front office isnt a fan of his

For anyone that bothered to look at how Phillips was used in Dallas it was much more as an H-Back/pseudo-FB. Signing him would do little to limit Green's touches.

I thin the John Phillips is just a blocker, Assuming all we have is Gates and Green on roster I don't hate it if we signed him. If he gets more than McMichael was set to make my thoughts will quickly change.

Gotta say I expected we wouldn't be that involved today...but if we can't even land Powers it seems like a pretty bad sign.

Ryan Fitzpatrick just got released. Does this signal the Bills going QB at 8?

Again... Martin's a UFA, Franklin's a UFA. Thomas hasn't shown to be a capable starter. Why release a guy until you absolutely have to unless you already have a better option on the roster? Also, from the sound of it, Plan B if we can't re-sign Franklin is to restructure Garay (who knows he isn't going to get more than a 1-year deal on the open market anyway because of the recent trend involving NT's - Franklin in particular).

We play tons of off-man and zone. I swear, it's like people don't even pay attention to coverage schemes.

There he goes. RT @MikeGarafolo: Broncos have agreed to terms with OG Louis Vasquez, 4 years, $23.5 million w/ $13 million fully guaranteed.

Well, assuming anyone owned a Vasquez jersey to begin with, might I suggest burning it in effigy prior to the home game against the Donks.

I'm not surprised or worried about it. Like I've said 10-20 times already, he is not an ideal fit for D'Allessandris' zone scheme.

Vasquez is dead to me. He got a big contract and signed with a contender, which I can't get mad at, but Denver? Gut instinct tells me he wanted to rib the Chargers a bit with that one.

Oh I know. It's more about, you had 31 options and you go to a division rival. Shows that Dielman never rubbed off on him (Dielman had been quoted multiple times as saying he'd sooner prematurely retire - ironic, huh? - than play for a division rival... or the Pats).

I'm just already up to my ears in people griping that we're not out there spending, spending, spending after bitching about the woes of the situations we're in with certain contracts after AJ spent, spent, spent last off-season. Given the cap-space we had (and considering that ~ $5 million of that was going to have to be set aside for signing draft picks), we were never contenders for anything better than 2nd-tier free agents to begin with, unless those guys wanted to be Chargers so badly they were willing to take lesser deals (which is a rarity because agents will spin things however they need to in order to make sure their cut is bigger).

Chargers agreed to terms with TE John Phillips, formerly of the Cowboys, on a three-year contract.
Phillips is more of a pass catcher than a blocker, but has just 30 catches over 48 career games thanks to Jason Witten. He missed all of 2010 with a torn ACL. Redshirting behind Antonio Gates, Phillips won't make a fantasy impact in 2013.

You go where the guaranteed money takes you when you've been on a 3rd round pick wage for the last few years.

I hold nothing against Vaz, I always liked him, and at one point I was one of only a few people in here who defended him in 2012.

Call me nuts, but I get the feeling that he jumped the gun. With Levitre off the market, he could have likely taken the Broncos' offer to Indy and Jimmy Raye would have beaten Grigson into submission and offered more guaranteed money just to spite Dean.

I think the bigger concern is team had no interest or attempt for either guard and lost our on both for decent but not ridiculous money. Clearly telesco has his plan but just failure to even make an attempt to go after either is disconcerting. No one here realistically expects team compete for biggest but for B listers who fit need, make a good faith attempt
