If he is than great, but that signing bonus factors into his cap hit in 2013.

Good signing, he'll take over for Ronnie Brown, clearly we're trying to go with the youth movement.

I've seen Woodpecker play plenty of times while in New England, he's a shifty back for sure, but he's not that Plan B running back we'll want when Mathews goes down that's for sure. He's a clear receiver out of the backfield and pass protection guy, 3rd down back. Hopefully we got him on the cheap and we still draft a RB or sign another one.

Any time you can get THE TENTH BEST RUNNING BACK IN THE LEAGUE LAST YEAR on an inexpensive, 2 year deal...yeah. Pop them bottles, everybody

haven't seen any 'real' numbers but sounds pretty cheap. *pops them bottles.*

If he was the 10th best running back in the league last year I would love to see the criteria used to make that judgement

I remember seeing this kid on the Jets who was a "Hard knocks" Fan Favorite. His first year on the team, His first pre season game he had 500 total yards and 3 TD's. They cut him after that game.

    well this is their criteria.

    Bolts From The Blue@BFTB_Chargers
He was the 10th best RB in the league last year (via @PFF) RT @TravisDevlin: BFTB_Chargers I have no idea how to react to this signing....

    8. Danny Woodhead
    2012 Grade: +10.42012 Snaps: 424
Summary: The diminutive Woodhead has used his time with the Patriots to establish himself as one of the premier third-down backs in the league. He’s not going to push a pile, but his nose for the first-down marker is what separates him from the rest. Indeed, of all running backs with at least 75 carries, his 26.3 conversion percentage on runs into first downs or touchdowns, is the third-highest mark.
What’s more, he offers a threat as a receiver out of the backfield. In fact, 44% of his targets turned into first downs, the second-highest percentage of any running back. You need to commit to him in a way the Patriots have, but Woodhead is an incredibly productive player.

He had 76 rushes for 301 yards and 4 TDs. 40 rec 446 yrds and 3 Tds

I'm not sure if I'd consider that 10th best, I don't know puts him right @ the middle so quite possibly. It is 6 more TD's than Mathews :roflmao:

I'll take his 7 td's last year any day. Pretty sure we may have had a max of 7 td's from all of our backup RB's and our FB all last year, hell could almost add Mathews totals in. Rivers has shown he loves having a scatback type rb and has excelled with one. Glad we could fill that need and not rely on a muppet to fill it.

don't agree with the assessment but he led all eligible NFL RBs with 11.2 yards per reception. maybe not top 10 but he's pretty solid and cheap.

Very possible, they were in town for less than 2 hours, but UNLV is right across the street from McArren so its possible.

I'm not a huge fan of Woodcock, but I like what it says about the scheme McCoy might be leaning towards.

    Cox 2.1
    Rinehart 1.75
    Phillips @1.5 I'm guessing
Dunlap Is based off of Incentives and Escalation based (could earn up to 6 million for 2 years but I'm assuming that would mean he's starting X amount of games)
    And Novak's was @ 1.5 I think

If Woodhead takes away our need at having to draft an RB this year I'm all for it. Also does the addition of Woodhead make Royal more expendable?

No. Woodhouse is probably gonna compete with Fozzy for the 3rd back role. I'd like go see more of a primary runner backing up RM.

Now one-year deals starting to pile up, showing the free-agent market has shifted from shopping at Saks to shopping at Filene's.

The Broncos did not file RE Elvis Dumervil's new contract in time, and he has been released.
Denver had until 4PM ET to submit the new deal to the league office, but they simply didn't get it in before the deadline. The two sides had agreed to slash Dumervil's salary from $12 million to $8 million, so there is a deal. We tentatively expect Dumervil to re-up with the Broncos, but he's now open to see what else is out on the market. It's doubtful Dumervil would find $8 million anywhere else, considering what Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett have signed for in recent days.

Woodhead is a great signing, but nothing to get too crazy about.

He'll get his touches in the screen game, and check downs for sure. Again he is going to be a 3rd down back, and he was very effective with New England and their system. He's not going to carry the ball all that much, most of his carries came off quick runs and draws in the no huddle offense New England ran. Which leads me to believe, we might run that no huddle here.

We're definitely in the market for a guy who can carry the ball however, via free agency or the draft.

Somebody please explain to me why Charlie Whitehurst and Jeromey Clary are still on the team though? Please cut them and create a little more cap relief.

Free agent OLB Antwan Barnes left his Jets visit without a contract.
The Jets fail to land another player. New York was reportedly only willing to offer Barnes $2 million per year, and he's better off seeing what else is out there. Barnes has 14 sacks over the last two seasons.

I doubt we bring him back if he wants more than 2 million a year

Ronnie Brown thought, based on free agency interest last offseason, his career could be done. But Chargers bringing back the veteran RB.
