I think we will sit back for a little bit, But I see us bringing back Aubrayo Franklin. I also heard us interest in Maake Kemoeatu. I possibly see us bring back Vaughn Martin and Corey Lynch, Many more moves that are made I see more solid not exciting.
Right as I typed that this was posted Michael Gehlken @UTgehlken Wouldn't count it out. MT @MikeyG253: Are you hinting SD will make a play to strengthen O-line by signing a legit starter in near future? To decode what Gehlken is saying here, Sunday through Wednesday all 31 teams are in AZ discussing new rules for NFL safety. On Tuesday McCoy will have breakfast with reporters and a few agents. One agent is Drew Rosenhaus who represents Eric Winston. (Gehlkens words not mine)
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer OT Jake Long has agreed to terms with the Rams, per club source Time for a run on tackles
Rodger Saffold will be happy....... Naht. This sucks. Hopefully Miami makes a push for Sebastian Vollmer or Andre Smith then , and move Jonathan Martin over to LOT.
Michael Gehlken @UTgehlken Teams will be curious to see numbers. Sets base for their tackle negotiations. RT @ProFootballTalk Jake Long agrees to terms with Rams.
Rams agreed to terms with LT Jake Long, formerly of the Dolphins, to a four-year, $36 million contract. The Dolphins have dropped a ton of coin in free agency, but may enter the 2013 season with Jonathan Martin on Ryan Tannehill's blind side. It could get ugly. Although Long's once-sterling performance and durability have declined each of the past two seasons, Rams doctors gave him the green light and he will shore on left tackle for Sam Bradford. Rodger Saffold will kick to the right side. Long, 28 in May, has made four Pro Bowls in five NFL seasons and was the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft. Still a punishing drive blocker in the run game, the move at the very least is fantastic news for Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead.
Newsday's Bob Glauber reports LT Rodger Saffold will "likely" ask the Rams to trade him if they sign free agent Jake Long.
I can think of 2 OT's and 2 WR's on this team I would be happy to trade for Saffold, hell they can have them all if they take the salaries.
Saffold had a very rough rookie year (kind of what I expect from Armstead) but he improved greatly in 2012, I actually was under the impression that the Rams were happy with him. I'd like to see us hold off until draft day, and then if it doesn't look like Johnson will fall to us we make a play for Saffold and take the best available pass rusher at 11, or trade back.
I wanna see what the prices were for long. If its cheap enough I'd take a long look at Vollmer to solve our RT woes
Personally I want to see us pick up a serviceable RT in free agency (Doesn't have to be Smith, Vollmer, or even Winston) We cut Clary. Next I'd like us to make a decision on Gaither, You know it, I know it, even the old lady down the street knows it. The Chargers have to go OT in possibly 2 of the first 3 rounds, it's no secret so why hide it. If they give Gaither a chance a LT, so be it. Shows guts and trust, Gaithers talent was never the issue.
I knew that was a bandaid deal when they tagged him. No way they thought he was the long-term answer.
Wouldn't take a rule change, just an interpretation of the rules with an eye toward intent. (Obviously, I hope the Donkholes are stuck though.)
Rules are rules. If the rules state the contract must have a time stamp before a certain time, and it didn't have such a time stamp, then it was not there in time. Very simple and no interpretation involved. Just like your taxes, IRS says the envelope needs to be postmarked no later than Apr 15. Even if you turn them into the post office, but they do not post mark it by then, your taxes are late. Same principle holds true on these contracts
The thing is with Vollmer, he had his knee scoped around when the combine took place. It's minor, but I think the market has been quiet for him because teams, and possibly his agents, must feel like he is not yet ready to pass a physical. With Jake Long making about $8.5M a year, Vollmer, could probably only make $5M a year.
NFL says : NO ELVIS FOR YOU! http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...s-appeal-to-uphold-dumervil-verbal-agreement/
Hope it's a dead issue now versus Donkey's legal staff preparing an appeal to the NFL or thru the courts. $5 million and a key player are a lot to lose without giving up a fight.
Anyone know if the roster numbers on chargers.com can be relied upon eg. they've given Cox 22, Dunlap 77 and Rinehart 71?
I think they don't get their official numbers until mid July, its possible that these numbers are accurate
They won't provide numbers til closer to training camp. I know the owners are at the meeting but I'm wondering if the Chargers are speaking with anyone else. Last person I heard we were speaking with (and again its Hacksaw) CB Captain Munnerlyn - whose got incredible speed and won his job back after losing it initially. Wonder if we are speaking any longer or potentially discussing Eric Winston as an option any more
