HOLY SHYTE!!:icon_eek: Gas just jumped 18 cents a gallon here in the past 24 hours!!!

So WTF happened---some mullah let a particularly heinous fart over there in the Middle East?? Some oil baron had to put off buying a new Bentley this week? Why in hell are we suddenly paying $3.36 a gallon for regular? I'm pissed, and I can afford it.....what about the folks busting their asses for nine or ten bucks an hour? What about the seniors on fixed incomes? What are they supposed to do, ride a fuggin BICYCLE everywhere??!!

It's time the citizens of this nation held our 'leadership' accountable for this highway robbery, and at this point I don't give a rat's arse who it is: somebody needs to answer for it!!!  :mad2:

:censored: Bush and his :censored: war
:censored: both the major political parties
:censored: the greedy bastards who run the oil companies
    :censored: the enviro-Nazis
    :censored: the entire Middle East!!!

    There..........I feel better now.

Buy a VW TDI. It' worth every penny. 45mpg combined. Turbo Diesel. Forget all you remember of the old VW Diesel. Excellent road car. Diesel prices are more stable. And yes, it can run at 85 -90 mph all day long. :icon_eek:

BTW. I can run on straight veggie oil without modifiation. That's next.

    $30.00 = 500 mi.

Same price as a Prius, better fuel economy, safer, and less of a manufacturing footprint.

Mines a '99. You can get the new Jetta's from Leaper Motors in Miramar. Or buy new at dealerships next year.

An F/A 18 uses approx 1,500 Gallons for a 1 Hour flight, multiply that by an entire fleet. Guess how much it costs the Goverment to fly Airplanes?

Same as any other VW. The Golf/Rabbit, Bettle, Jetta, or Passat with a 1.9l turbo diesel.

Well, I wish I was in a position to replace my old '88 Buick, but it won't be until after we get my hubby's car paid off this fall.......it's kinda hard to afford TWO car payments at a time.

My son-in-law has had a series of VWs, which is why I'm not terribly impressed with 'em---lots of breakdowns, which necessitate the purchase of lots of really, really expensive parts. He can't even replace the radiator without forking over at least $500. (And I think Volkswagens are generally ugly, too.) But he does get about 45 mpg with his '01 diesel wagon, so I guess there's something to be said for the damned things. And it could be just the fact that he's hard on cars.........he's something of a hot-rodder.

Hubby's car (Hyundai Sonata) gets about 35 mpg, which is pretty good when you compare it with my wheels (I think I get 15 on a good day). What I want is a small, light SUV; do y'all have any recommendations for those?

I need an automatic, though---I'm kinda embarrassed to admit this, but I don't know how to drive a stick shift. For years I thought that someday I'd learn---both my husband and sister have offered to teach me---but I've been driving since I was 14, still haven't gotten around to it, and now I'm half afraid this old dog isn't up to learning new tricks. Then again, maybe the time is now............?

If you want a small, light SUV, look at the Honda CRV. Fairly good mileage, not bad for room either. From what I've read, the Ford Escape isn't bad either. Toyota's got a hybrid version of their Highlander, but it's kinda pricey.

I have an '01 Escape. I get about 28 mpg (it's only got a 4 banger in it). I'd get rid of it for something smaller and more economical but it's paid off and I'm not in the mood for another car payment.
