I became a Chargers fan the year after Fouts retired. (by happenstance. I was 8 years old then).

I have foggy memories of the "holy roller" game going forward, but clear memories of 1981 Ice bowl Cinci game at my uncles house in Bay Park. I was 9.

I took the Chargers playoff quiz on UtSd, got 9/10. The only question I didnt get was who did the Chargers challenge from the NFL after winning the 1963 AFL championship. Interesting to read the team refused (wont mention in case you guys want to take quiz). Had this challenge happened before between leagues? (I know google is my friend). But if not it would have been interesting if that eas the start of the Superbowl aka Supergame.

They challenged the Bears (who refused). Don't know if it had ever happened before, but it became routine in the years leading up to SB 1.

So if it would have happened, then the Superbowl trophy would be called "The Gillman?" :):abq2:

I was 4 when the Chargers played the Freeze Bowl in Cincy. I still remember watching the game at home in AZ wearing a pair of ski gloves in the hopes that it would somehow keep the Charger players warm. At some point in the 2nd half Fouts threw a pick six and I threw the ski gloves across the room in disgust. I'm so much more mature now. Honestly, I swear.

I was 16 when I went to the first home game in 1961 at Balboa Stadium. I remember all of the highs and lows. I have hatred for most of the other NFL teams.
