Do you guys really think taking meachem is going to get us to a superbowl? Give me a break we scored the most points in the league last year offense is definetly something we can put on the back burner until the 2nd or 3rd round...I think we have an even bigger hole to fill at S and ILB....I will tell you this it could happen with Norval as the head coach since he is an offensive minded coach but if SD does go with a WR in the first I will be highly disappointed in AJ!

Marcus McNeill came to SD for a visit, but I don't think the Chargers publicized that until after the draft.

I dont think at the 30th pick there would be a defensive player worth grabbing if Meachem is available. True we scored the most points last year but that was last year. We had Kmac, and EP didnt choke throughout the season. Look ahead and tell me that besides VJ and EP, we have solid receivers. We need a receiver, but we also need ILB's as well. Im more worried about our WR's than our LB's. Im kinda hoping MT gets us an extra #1 so we can take care of both needs.

You may be right however I believe that its possible michael griffen will be there and I also would like Buster Davis...Paul Williams is the sleeper WR in this draft IMO and we could get him in the second maybe even the third! I believe with the loss of kiel we need to go after a S and ILB first then WR....Just my opinion though!

I think the difference in safeties in round one vs. rounds two or three isn't very much.

IMO, only one safety (Landry) is a first round talent.

Piscitelli, Gattis, Wendling, etc will all be available in rounds two or three. Griffin is about the same, IMO as those three, but is overrated into the first round right now.

Nelson is a dumb ***. Merriweather is a thug.

I don't see any ILB's that will be around for SD in round one, except maybe Lawrence Timmons. He views himself as an OLB in the 3-4.

Timmons has the ability to excel in any scheme but prefers to play in a 3-4 defense, the brand currently deployed in San Diego.

“I’d say (I prefer the) 3-4 because I rush off the end,” he said. “But coverage is everything at FSU. We drop just as much as anybody. I’ve been doing it since I’ve been there.”

Although he got a taste for the 3-4 in college, the Seminoles’ primary defense was a 4-3 alignment.

“In our 3-4 at FSU, I played the Will and Sam, so I played both outsides. We ran 3-4 like 25 percent of the time,” Timmons said.

That versatility would be a great addition to San Diego’s linebacker corps. At outside linebacker, he and Marques Harris would combine to give the Chargers tremendous pass-rushing talent coming off the bench.

Also, he has the ability to play some inside linebacker, a considerable bonus given the offseason losses of Donnie Edwards and Randall Godfrey.

The problem is that General Manager A.J. Smith would have to burn his first-round pick to acquire Simmons. Although that may be a good value selection, the Chargers seem to have more pressing needs elsewhere.

True but how many of the WR in recent years have come in a become impact players? Not many and outside of Calvin Johnson the same goes for the WR in the draft yes it is loaded with talent but also most all are going to projects in the NFL. Now is it worth it to draft a 1st round WR that may or may not make an impact? I dont believe so but it is just an opinion!

You may be right but is it really worth a 1st round pick on a WR? How many WR's have become 1st year studs recent drafts not to many as I remember. Receiver group deep, how do you compare?
We’re all tall, big and physical and we each do our own thing. Mine is yards after the catch, I would say.

On three UT receivers being here (Bret Smith, Jayson Swain)?
For us, me, Bret and Swain, we all wanted to bring Wide Receiver U. back to Tennessee, and the only way we could bring it back was through hard work, and I think that’s why all of us are [at the Combine] right now.

On competition with schools like Tenn., Ohio St., Fla., LSU having multiple receivers here?
There’s great competition. Ohio State has two, LSU has two, we have three. It’s an honor to be here and to be on the same playing field with each other and not as rivals right now. We’re all trying to do the same thing.

Making transition from college to NFL?
For one, just putting God first, taking it one day at a time, learning everything, learning the system as quickly as possible and working hard day in and day out. Don’t ever give up.

Teams most interested?
I don’t know. They’ve probably called my agent [Jeff Griffin]. I’ve told him, “Don’t tell me who called.”

What teams have spent most time here with you?
Just about all of them, I would say.

Do you plan to do a full workout?
Yes

Will you be disappointed if you don’t get picked in the first round? How high a Priority?
It’s a priority for me and my family. It’s something that we’ve always talked about. It’s always been one of my goals.

Why the big jump n production from soph. year to junior year?
I attribute it to God, and me asking Him to come back into my life. My little girl [Adrianna] was born. I would say Coach [David] Cutcliffe and Coach [Trooper] Taylor staying on me and that we didn’t rotate as much.

Was there a time you got away from the Lord?
In ’05, I went through a spell where I felt like I could do it on my own. He humbled me a showed me, “I still run the show.” So I had to call Him for help. In the ’05 season, we had a terrible season at Tennessee. And for me, I felt like at times, I could have made bigger and better plays, and at times I didn’t make the plays that needed to be made. I knew there was only one person that could help me do that.

Was it lack of discipline or concentration?
It wasn’t either of those things. It was just that at times in games, plays weren’t made. It wasn’t from just me, but from every position.

About Smith and Swain?
Bret Smith is like a brother, him and Swain are like brothers to me. Without those two guys, I probably wouldn’t have had the season I had this year, because you couldn’t double one of us. And for Bret to play in the slot, it took a lot of pressure off me and Swain. Bret came to practice ready to work every day. For one of us, if you see the other one slowing down or something like that, you’d see one of the others say, “Come on, we’ve got to pick it up.”

About Bret Smith?
Bret’s got great hands, runs great routes, reads coverages well and he’s a coachable player.

Interest from the Titans who are close by?
They’ve probably been talking to my agent, but I don’t know.

How well have you gotten to know Calvin Johnson and Ted Ginn?
I got to know Calvin Johnson pretty well at the All-American Awards Show. We go to know each other. I haven’t gotten a chance to meet with Ted Ginn, Jr. I got a chance to meet Dwayne Jarret, Dwayne Bowe and Sidney Rice. All three of us worked oput at the same place, so we all get along pretty good.

History at Tennessee, going back to Willie Gault, etc. How does that affect you guys?
For one, that’s the history of Tennessee. We’re known for great running backs and great receivers. We’ve had two great quarterbacks _ Peyton [Manning] and Tee Martin. But as far as receiver, if you want to be one of the best receivers, a great receiver, you’ve got to go to a great place, and a lot of great receivers have come out of the SEC.

Where are you from?
Tulsa, Okla.

Why come to Tennessee from there?
I wanted to be able to grow up. I wanted to be able to get away from home and try to do things on my own. I think if I’d gone to OU, I could always call my mom and ask for help and she’d be right down the street.

Would you prefer to be counted on right away or learn behind veterans, like with the Rams?
In my case, you always want to learn. You’re never to old to learn and whatever I can do to help the team win, that’s what I’ll do.

On deciding to pass up senior year?
I felt like God [wants me to]. I took a day of fasting. I asked God for help, and He told me it was time to move on.

On high school days, playing football and basketball?
That was a great experience for me as a kid, because me and my friends [talked about]. We al grew up saying we were going to play for a stte championship and play for colleges or the NBA one day.

Better at football or basketball?
I was just as good at both of them.

Championships?
We didn’t win any in football. We made it to the state finals.

Scouts want him to work on?
They want to see me run faster, and they want to see me come in and out of my breaks.

Expect to run here?
I’ll let you know on Sunday. Me, I expect to run a 4.3.

Jump from ’05 to ’06?
For one, we rotated receivers a lot. In ’05 there were seven of us and all seven played. In ’06, just three of us played the most _ me, Bret and Swain. Coach Cutcliffe and Coach Taylor had a lot to do with that, and I brought God back nto my life.

On his daughter?
When you have a first born, it’s always something special, and you don’t want to let them down in any way. I figure it’s going to be a big step being a father, and I want to do everything possible to make sure that she has everything in her world and her way that she can possibly get.

Best cornerback faced?
I would say Chris Houston of Arkansas. He was an aggressive corner who played his technique real well. He had safety help and he knew that. And by by him having afety help he got to relax and play th way he wanted to play.
