I went to a Derby Party yesterday. It was fun. Most of the ladies wore dresses and all wore hats. We drank mint julips and ate Derby Pie. We got to choose the Win, Place and Show finishers. There were 12 people who played "Pick the Winners" and put in $5 for the pot. No one guessed that Mine the Bird would win. A guy and I guessed that Pharoah of the Nile would be second, so we got to split the pot. When they showed on TV, from above, how Mine That Bird came from dead last, moved around other horses and along the rail to take the lead, way out in front, we were all amazed. :icon_eek: I've never seen a horse with that much late speed. Always fun to see a longshot underdog win. The jockey was so excited for his win, he was almost out of his mind. I've never seen a jockey get quite that excited. Beautiful horse:
