AJ didn't start his GM career with the Chargers until after the draft in 2003 .. 11 days after Butler passed away.

So LT, Jammer, and Davis shouldn't even part of the conversation regarding AJ.

I've been pretty vocal in my feelings of AJ Smiths drafts.

What you cant dispute is the fact that if he doesnt have a premium draft slot in the 1st round he isnt likely to do much with the draft pic. The days of P.R, Merriman and drafts like them have been long gone.

    Buster Davis
    Jacob Hester
    Cason

    These guys havent done much.

Other teams expect their high draft pics to perform and contribute. We dont have a starter in that group but some will be forced into situations due to lack of depth. Depth we should have based on AJ's drafting ability.

Before anyone brings up our DLine in 09' as depth please remember we averaged 28ppg on offense. Even if the D gave up 200 yards rushing and let the other team control the TOP damn near the whole game, we still won through offense.

Defense with AT LEAST the 1st 2 picks, plz.

No RB until the 3rd unless we trade Sproles for a 2nd or better.

    We'll spend somewhere between our comp 5th & a 7th on QB.

DB (corner or safety with good cover skills), OLB, & another RB (possibly via UDFA).

TE - probably a better blocker, but not necessarily. Could go for the mismatch type.

At least 4 of 7 picks go defense.

Will likely trade down from 28 before trading up unless our guy is there at 24 or lower.

Happy NFL Draft 2010 Eve!!!! :icon_toast:

A.J. Smith is on the verge of having a better Won-Loss record than Sid Gilman in a shorter period of time.

Get on your knees and do this .....

Would he have during the Broncos, Raiders and Chiefs hay days? The AFC West has been horrible since his taking over. The teams owned us just before LT got here. LT did way more for this franchise than AJ ever will.

Measuring wins is one way to evaluate a GM. Another is to look at the year previous and see if we have gotten better, treaded water, or fell off some.

You tell me where this ship is heading realistically. Without the rose colored glasses on.

If PR went down this team would be below average in a flash.

sorry man. Living through the perfect storm of: the end of Beathard, Gilbride, and Leaf.

AJ can pretty much blow this entire draft, and I'll still want him.

Thats a sad way to run a team and take advantage of an opportunity. I fear the Chargers organization knows that a good amount of fans feel this way.

Whats the motivation to win a Super Bowl when your fans are just content with AFC titles?

Super Bowls cost a team a lot of money the next year. 1 n dones do not.

Another metric is to see how many times we have made the playoffs when compared to our history.

Win-loss records is not the end all or tell all but it does speak volumes when compared to Sid Gilman - you know - the FATHER of the modern day passing game.

your grasp of reality is out of sync if you think the ownership of an NFL club gives one shits damn what joe q fan is content with.

they are in business to make money. That means putting butts luxury suites and, selling advertising.

I already gave credit to that measure. Your second paragraph admits its only one way to evaluate movement. I've said I give little value to this due to our AFC West rivals being so bad AND the fact we had a Super Bowl caliber team in 06'.

Since 06' we have not gotten better as a team, have more depth or even kept pace in 2 phases of our game. The only thing we have been consistent in (actually we have scored less points in the past 3 years than the 3 years before that) is passing offense.

Our D is worse, our running game worse and now our special teams worse.

AJ needs impact players in this draft or he will get turned on as quick as LT did by this city.

That's your opinion, not a fact.

Fact is only 1 team wins it all every year, 31 other teams and their fans will be disappointed in the end. Just b/c a fan doesn't deem the organization worthless when they don't win it all doesn't mean they're simply content with playoff appearances.

    It sure does.

When I see a guy like Buster Davis drafted in the 1st, then he sits for 3 years while we have our biggest opportunity to win a Super Bowl and need just a couple extra pieces it speaks volumes as to expectations. There are many fans who think Buster just needs one more year. BASED ON WHAT? If that is the passive attitude our fanbase has it's definitely not a stretch to think they are ok with playoff ending seasons.

Hester would have helped this team reach a Super Bowl how?

For the sake of fun, lets say we all agree draft picks dont pan out, dont make impact for a few seasons, blada blada blada.

I then have to ask. Wheres the depth???

Where is the replacement for JWall? For LT? Heck, for Kassim Osgood? We dont have a current player on the roster being groomed to take over where they left off. So much for that angle.

This team is treading water behind Philip Rivers and a horrible AFC West.

It will take the Chargers this draft and next years draft to be able to win it all. We have too many glaring needs to be able to plug them all with this years draft.

Again, purely an assumption by YOU.

Insulting fellow fans for not buying into your negative POV is lame dude. I don't put AJ up on a god-like pedastal but I also have enough sense to realize that the draft is largely a crapshoot and the current regime has put us in a better position to be a competitive team capable of winning it all. It's not one or the other here and yes, playoffs are nice and all but the only thing I want out of any season at this point is a Championship. Blowing up our FO is completely counter productive to making that happen.

Where's the depth? sorry let me clear my head.

Hardwick, starting Center missed 9 straight games. Vasquez RG, missed two games. Clary RT, missed 5 games. LT starting rb missed two games.

Jamal Williams missed all but the opener. OG missed the last 2 games. Bingham missed the entire season.

MLB- Burnett missed games due to injury. Dobbins replace him, and then he went on IR.

We had as many injuries as any team I can think of, and still went 13-3.

I'm not sure how much more depth we're supposed to have? An all Pro at every position, and then simply a pro bowler at every back up?

Some people have no sense of reality. And if you think he's doing so bad, and we have so many holes to fill... just imagine what Rams, Browns, and Lions of the world are thinking.
