Yes. Shamrock you are correct. Desert Storm was considered the third Barbary War and this one is the 4th. We added Afghanistan that is for the fourth Barbary War.
I've never been on Post there, just driven past it. Between White Sands and Ft. Irwin, it would be hard to decide which is the bigger armpit. Probably Irwin. That place is hell on Earth.
Serious. It's about 30 miles North off I-40 (East of Barstow). There are a couple of "splits" in the little two lane highway, with poor sign markings. If you don't know where the hell you're going, or it's late and dark, you can wind up on some one lane dirt road with an Abrams rolling over your ***.
I've never been "on post", but I've spent considerable time "down range". My A-Team did a lotta Laser-Target Designating in the early '80's. Irwin's were they do alotta tank stuff, idn't it?? :icon_shrug: :icon_huh:
Seriously, that place fuggin sucks. It can be 110 during the day, and 25 degrees at night. Glad I didn't spend much time there - just visited for a couple days.
You're right about the temperature changes. I spent about 3 weeks at 29 Stumps (Palms), and it was Ed Zachary as you said.

Yeah, that's an old one that's floated around. Too bad it's not true. Snopes comments. But, I think we both know many people who would have answered it exactly like that.
Frankly, I don't think quick enuff on my feet to be that creative. I'da prolly said summpm really un-PC, like, "I saw his head explode like a ripe August tamater!!"
