With this, if my math is correct (along with the numbers from Over the Cap), Telesco freed up $4.85 million in cap space by releasing Cox, Patrick, and McClain. Not too shabby, Telescopo.

Only have about $9M in cap space, and $5M goes to the draft. Have to imagine their are restructure/cuts coming up for Gates and Clary and possibly Hardwick.

He seemed to be much more interested in gathering up more followers on his IG account, than putting in work for his recovery and off season workouts. I'd seen him recently being touted on a fitness models IG account!

Saw him on twitter surrounded by 3 diff NFL jerseys, wonder is he going to try and make every NFL team?

That being said he's far from the worst corner I've seen in SD.

I don't get it. Was Patrick in the mix at CB or riding the bench?

This accounts for the extra $10M the cap went up this year to $133M?

Yep it sounds accurate. The question is Royal's restructure, I haven't heard how much we saved.

Yeah we were over the cap until these cuts. Overthecap.com actually shows us with just $5.7 million in cap space even after these moves. Remember that when you cut someone you have to replace him with a minimum salary guy, who makes about 420k (or whatever the 51st highest paid player makes).

Butler's cap number is going to be $2.98 million which accounts for the rest of the difference.

EDIT: The OvertheCap number doesn't include Royal's pay cut, so when the details come out that should add another $1-2 million in cap space

He started the season as the starting nickel corner. When he got hurt, seems like we trusted Addae/Stuckey a little more moved Gilchrist to the slot and we did a fantastic job covering the slot. Gilchrist really does well there and even blitz well on occasion.

But Patrick was burned a good amount of times. He showed little promise, but he was going to be nothing more than a nickel CB for us.

I thought we would be saving more this year due to Gather not costing us anymore and Meachem costing us less.

The Patrick release confuses me a bit. At the very least he would of provided good depth for cheap. I'm guessing if had to do with all his injuries. Had multiple concussions.

We shoved a huge portion of Gaither and Meachem's contracts to this year so we could sign Freeney, and pick up street FAs in the middle of the season.

In all fairness to Johnny Patrick, one jersey was his college jersey, one was his Saints jersey (he was their 3rd round pick a few years ago) and one was his Chargers # 26.

He seemed like a nice enough kid, just seemed to be too involved with the whole social media fever. I agree that he wasn't the worst CB. Derek Cox Sux was!

OvertheCap shows us paying more for Gaither in 2014, but less for Meachem. I'm guessing Meachem had guaranteed salary for 2013. If you designate a guy a June 1 cut you just pay his prorated bonus + guaranteed salary that year, and everything else hits the following year. There isn't any discretion.

I'm pretty sure MOST of Gaithersburg contract was pushed to this year. Not sure about Meachem.
