Yeah it seems odd to me. I can remember us IR'ing players and they find a place on the bottom of the roster page for the season but cannot play, practice etc until the next season. Nate wasn't out of contract at season end was he?, maybe that's the reason?
But after we IR'd Merriman he attempted a come back the following year as Bolt didn't he? If I recall correctly he got injured against Tennessee but kinda played to season end. Then he chose not to have surgery, tried to go in September 2008 and ended up on IR that month, but he came back in 2009 as a Bolt. He was again IR'd in 2010 and 'released when healthy' like Nate. Maybe you can IR a guy only once?
In 2008 he was 'full' IR'd because he was stupid and didn't have surgery in the off season. He tried to play in one game and realized he could go so was out with surgery. That was a FULL IR because he couldn't play again that season for anyone. Then, in 2010, he was injured but not so badly he would be out for the season. Chargers could either keep him on the roster in hopes of return or 'cut' him. Since he was injured, they couldn't just cut him, so they had to 'IR with minor injury'. That gave them a spot on the roster but could not be allowed to return to that team.
So they decided not to release him today but are waiting for Dr. Chao to see him on Monday. His agent is threatening to sue the Chargers because the Bolts can release him to Waivers on Tuesday and if he gets picked up, they save 1.2 million in exit pay. His agent says he's healthy now and should be released. Chargers say their doctor hasnt cleared him. Lol. All I can say is the dude has been cashing paychecks for the last 38 games that he only saw the field in 17 of them. Seems to me he has gotten plenty of free pay. Chargers are being smart and releasing him on Tuesday.
Well, that's one guy who has choked when we need him and finally got the axe. Now, onto the next one, hopefully Norv?
