Congratulations to the Lakers. I really dont hate the Lakers, except one man. No matter how talented he is, or if he takes his team to the championship, I cannot stand him. And, well, there it is.
I felt the same way going into this season too Rexy. I even told my Boston loving brother that I wouldn't watch a Laker game until Kobe (who I called Mr. Selfish) was traded. Then the Lakers got Derek Fisher back. Then they picked up Pau Gasol. So I watched. Kobe was PASSING THE BALL. Often. Wow. As Laker fan, this was refreshing. They looked like a new team. I still can't stand the Micahel Jordan comparisons as Kobe will NEVER be as good nor as dominant. But the main reason I'm still a die-hard fan is because of Fisher. Fisher basically became a Laker again for the health of his little girl.
I don't have any problems with anyone else on the Lakers except for Kobe. I never liked his attitude coming into the league and throughout the Shaq era. But what really made me lose complete respect for him was his I'm better than the organization attitude after last season. Blaming everyone but himself and wanting to quit the team when he was the main reason why they were rebuilding. Look at LT and what he said a few years back about sticking with the Bolts to make them better and not bailing for another team. Basically calling those types of players quitters. Kobe will always be and "I" type player. Yeah he's playing better team ball for now, but it took him over 10 years to start. If they lose this series, look for him to start complaining and pouting again. I know it's kind of weird to stop supporting a team because on one player. But he's that type of player, kind of like TO without the **** allegations. Great basketball skills, but bad attitude and too much arrogance. If he leaves in a couple of years, then I will be happy to root for the Lakers again.
um MJ was a selfish player too when he started, sometimes it just takes players longer to trust their teammates. You know what you can do, and it's easy to have faith in yourself but it's harder to have that faith in your teammates. And that usually comes when players mature more. Also when LT made that commitment he was a young player you think if we had to rebuild next season and who knows how long it'd take us to become a championship team he'd be happy about it? Kobe wants to win, no one can doubt that, and it's hard to blame a player for wanting to win, some players just aren't content with being average.
I was a BIG Shaq fan too. When the drama erupted between the two, I wanted Kobe out. I was really sad when Shaq was bounced, but could never bring myself to root for the Heat over my Lakers. I liked them before Kobe, with Kobe, and will after he's done. Guys like Nick Da Quick, Elden Campbell, Cedric Ceballos, Eddie Jones, and especially Magic for his comeback attempt were what got me to be a Laker fan, and those teams were not for the bandwagoners. I guess I root for the laundry, but I do too for the Chargers, even with guys like Whelihan and Moses Moreno under center. I just can't help rooting for the Purp N Gold. Now that we're winning it makes it funner to watch, and more people are vocal about it. But even if I don't like Kobe the person, when he shoots those crazy/insane jumpers over a double team, or plays his heart out on defense on the best player (unlike other superstars) I still love Kobe the player. Besides, if I could root for Karl Malone for a year (ughh) I can handle this.
