City Sets Plans For Park View Little League Homecoming Celebration Welcome Home Rally Planned for September 4

The City of Chula Vista is preparing to welcome home their local heroes, the Park View Little League team, from the Little League World Series with a homecoming celebration. A rally is set for Friday, September 4, in Memorial Park and Bowl at 6 p.m.

“Working their way into the World Series is quite an achievement for the Park View Little League team. Bringing home the championship trophy would be extra special. The City is excited to celebrate the team’s accomplishment. The rally will be an opportunity for fans and supporters to congratulate Chula Vista’s hometown heroes. The Chula Vista City Council and our residents are very proud of this team and their coaches,” said Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox.

Escorted by a Chula Vista Police Department motorcade, the team will board a Chula Vista Fire Department ladder truck for a short procession through western Chula Vista. The truck will depart F Street Fire Station heading north on Fourth Avenue, turning right heading east on E Street and will proceed south down Third Avenue, and turning right on Park Way. The procession will end at Memorial Park and Bowl at approximately 6 p.m. where crowds of cheering fans and the Castle Park High School Trojan marching band will greet the players. Mayor Cheryl Cox, local dignitaries, Park View Little League team representatives and other special guests will honor the players with a brief recognition ceremony.

The event will conclude with food, music and good cheer. Memorial Park and Bowl is located at 373 Park Way in Chula Vista.

Parking is expected to be difficult and the public is encouraged to use the Third Avenue parking structure located at Third Avenue and F Street. Parking is free. Park Way will be closed to traffic from Third to Fourth Avenues from approximately 3 to 8 p.m.

CHULA VISTA: LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS

    World champs!

Chula Vista Park View can lay claim to being the best Little League All-Star team in the world.

After falling behind 3-0, Park View rallied to defeat Taiwan 6-3 Sunday to win the 63rd Little League World Series before a national television audience and 32,400 at Howard J. Lamade Stadium.

Shortstop Andy Rios went 3-for-3, scored two runs and knocked in one for Park View. Third baseman Seth Godfrey went 1-for-2, driving in two runs. Kiko Garcia got the win in relief, working 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball while striking out six.

Taiwan took a three-run lead in the top of the third on two home runs.
Park View had built its reputation on the long ball, hitting a LLWS-record 19 home runs coming into the championship game. But today it won with small ball.

    http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/aug/31/park-view-tired-bunch/

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The world champion Chula Vista Park View Little Leaguers were a tired, bleary-eyed bunch as they headed their way back home this morning.

On a bus ride to Newark, N.J., before flying to California, pitcher Kiko Garcia said some of the players tried to stay up all night Sunday in their dorm room adjacent to Howard J. Lamade Stadium.

“We just wanted try to live it up until we had to leave,” said Garcia.

After celebrating with family and friends at a hotel ballroom Sunday night, the players headed back to their dorm, the team’s living quarters for the past two weeks.

The 12- and 13-year olds passed the time watching highlights of their Little League World Series championship win over Taiwan, playing video games and listening to their iPods.

And after playing 26 all-star games in 46 days, they still couldn’t get enough baseball. Using wooden bats and a foam ball, they played a game called “dorm ball.”

As to what it’s like being able to say they’re the best Little League all-star team in the world, second baseman Bulla Graft said, “I can’t believe we can say that, that we’re world champs. We’re the best team in the world.”

Some of the players stayed up until 2 a.m. today, then had to wake up at 6 to pack their belongings and clean the dorm.

Coach Ric Ramirez said a Little League official was surprised how clean the players left the room.

“We clean up well,” said Ramirez.

The team was scheduled to fly from Newark, N.J., to Ontario, arriving at about 7 p.m. From Ontario, the team will bus to nearby San Bernardino. Ramirez and manager Oscar Castro left their cars in San Bernardino, the site of the West Region tournament.

After winning the West Region on Aug. 16, the team left the next day for South Williamsport.

From San Bernardino, the players will take a bus to Southwestern College, where they’re expected to arrive at 10 p.m.

    Rally to be at college
    By Chris Moran

    August 31, 2009, 1:24 p.m.

The venue for the Friday night homecoming rally for the Park View Little League team has been changed to Southwestern College, said Ian Monahan, an event planner helping the city of Chula Vista.

The rally had originally been planned for Memorial Park in downtown Chula Vista. Because of anticipated crowds beyond the park's capacity, the event will be held in the community college's football stadium.

The event is still scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. It will take place in Devore Stadium on the campus at 900 Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista. Gates open at 4 p.m.

    Yes! Extremely annoying.

That was a great game and that double play with bases loaded was huge!

It was nice to see a CA team beat C.T. after watching the loaded C.T. teams dominate them years ago.
