Tomlinson on Rivers: It’s hard to be ‘The Guy’ Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 3, 2011, 5:14 PM EDT LaDainian Tomlinson has watched his old teammate Philip Rivers‘ struggles from close up (when the Jets faced the Chargers) and from afar on television. LT2 thinks he may know why Rivers hasn’t been playing well. “He seems distracted, for some reason. Like on the sideline, he seems like he’s just distracted. And I’ve always said this: It’s hard to be ‘the guy.’ When they say this is your team, it’s hard to be the guy, because you get all the questions of what’s wrong and what’s right. “And then you get your teammates who expect certain things from you, and when that doesn’t happen, you get strange looks in the locker room,” Tomlinson said. Tomlinson speaks from experience. His struggles at the end of his tenure in San Diego are well documented. When he left, teammates from Rivers to Antonio Gates alluded to issues with Tomlinson’s leadership style. While these comments from Tomlinson appear well-intended on the surface, they may not play that way in San Diego. It’s as if Tomlinson is saying to Rivers: It’s not so easy to lead, is it? “It’s hard to be that guy when it’s your team, so that may have a little bit to do with what’s going on, too,” Tomlinson said.
Whatever...I don't think he's distracted I think he's hurt and doesn't agree with Norv's play calling. LT was a great Charger so I'll always give him the benefit but the QB is the leader on the field...show me a super bowl winner where that wasn't true.
Stopped reading after this. Enough already as if someone would confuse the Giants LT with knowing Rivers or having insight.
Lawrence Taylor IS LT. Tomlinson has no right to steal someones nickname (whether it was given him by others or not). Luckily he's classy or these might seem like classless comments.
For those allergic to clicking...... A.J. Smith fires back at LaDainian Tomlinson Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 3, 2011, 9:15 PM EDT When we passed along LaDainian Tomlinson’s remarks about Philip Rivers earlier Thursday, we guessed that they wouldn’t play too well in San Diego. Chargers G.M. A.J. Smith did not disappoint. Smith took issue with the notion that Rivers is distracted and struggling this season because of the pressure inherent in being ‘The Guy.’ “I agree with what LT said about it’s hard being the guy,” Smith told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. “But I think it’s a lot harder when it’s no longer your team, and you’re not the guy.” Boom. Roasted. (We guess that Smith no longer has the “utmost respect” for Tomlinson.) Rivers was apprised of Tomlinson’s words and was a little less direct, but no less pointed. “Based on what you told me,” Rivers said, “he has to be speaking from experience. . . . I don’t feel that burden, nor has it had anything to do with the struggles. . . . People say, ‘It’s your team.’ I’ve never bought into that.” Translation: Stop projecting, LaDainian. Weren’t you done talking about the Chargers?
No one stole it. It's both of their initials and it's not like Tomlinson wasn't worth of the nickname as well. I could understand if he was some bum. But he's Hall Fame bound RB. People(New Yorkers mostly) like to say LT2 to belittle LT's career as if he's not worthy of it. Either way if he's signing docment and need to put down intials I'm sure we both know it'll be LT and not LT2
What's up with AJ? He always has a qurk to he's statements. LT gave he's opinions on the matter why does the author seemed to be baffled that someone else can have opinion on the matters of the Chargers.
LT is a Jet, not a Charger......... why, at this time, would he be offering his opinions on any issues with the Chargers? Should Rivers give advice on why LT's production has dropped off this season with the Jets?..... sometimes, you have to know when to not answer a reporter's question.
While Tomlinson may be a RB bound for the HOF, Taylor was a LB who IS in the HOF and changed the linebacker position forever so he's more worthy of the nickname. It makes sense because of Tomlinson's long name and same initials but it's still Lawrence Taylor's nickname. What would you think if Antonio Cromartie or Darrelle Revis started getting called Primetime? **** Tomlinson, that little bitch proved what kind of person he really was when he left here. PS: Like I said before, this is just an example of Tomlinson being "classy". He said he was done talking about the Chargers before last season but nope, still doing it and taking those oh so subtle jabs. If you ask him though he'll say he's just being classy.
I think Rivers is having an affair or a religious crisis or he realized after he had his 6th kid he ****** up big and he's actually gay. People often act like this and no one knows for sure why when they are struggling with weather to finally come out of the closet. He should just do it. He'd be a hero to gay people world wide for being the courageos first nfl player to play while openly gay.
LT, meet me at Camera 3: Dude, we loved what you did here in San Diego. We want to remember you fondly. We want you to enter the Hall as a Charger. We don't want to have mixed feelings about you because of stuff you said later in New York. Please, LT, just stop talking.
Rivers is 10 times the Leader LT ever was while he was here.. LT should jus retire hes just embarassing himself now scrubbin it up on the jets
I could do without L.T.'s take on things in Chargerland, but the whole "Lawrence Taylor is the only L.T." thing is just retarded. They're his f_cking initials, geez. I guess nobody can ever share a nickname, just ask Sugar Ray Leonard.
Up until about three year's ago L.T. still thought he played pro football, he just changed position and teams is all.
