Looks like "SupaMelvin" is back in business. Still, I'm somewhat scared that they're bringing him back too quickly.

If he thinks that he is ready, that's fine by me. Show him the way to bust Sheli in the chops.

Chargers are desperate for pass rush and for some kind of OLB help. Should be a good shot in the arm not only for this year but for Ingram play in 2014, less time for him to build up to game speed. He should have some good match ups against Pugh

I also don't expect much, but if he's physically ready to play without risk from the injury. I'm all for it. 3/4 healthy Ingram is better than anyone else we have going on.

I assume they will work him into the rotation slowly....... a few reps at a time.

Hope he is ready to come back, I actually think he might get a few hurries in. Giants offensive line has been terrible this year. But, most likely will be eased in.

I like it. I trust that those seeing him in practice are making the decision because he really is
ready to start getting back out there…(and not as a desperation move, re. the playoffs seeming to fade from view)

I really hate the idea of him not playing until 2014…
I just think that that's a scary-long time for a guy to have no playing time.

Just out of curiosity because I really don't know, but has Ingram been that amazing so far in his career? I see people talk about him like it would improve our pass rush a lot to have him, but I honestly haven't actually seen much of him to know (usually working through Chargers games last season).

^^^ Right now, he is just another body that we need on defense. Perhaps 'fresh' would be a better way to describe a player coming back to play out the last 4 games of the season. The kid is good, and we will get a chance to see what he can do. It might even help out the other guys on defense too in being able to get to the QB.

:roflmao: I think that kind of sums up the current state of affairs…that some of us are eagerly awaiting
the return of a guy with 2 starts and 1 career sack, tells you what you need to know about our D...

UT says situational play. Wonder if that means "slip him into the lineup to get a few reps" situational for this first game versus game play situational.

At this point, no one man is going to provide the kind of pass-rush necessary to turn us into a "good" defense. But, you can't just look at Ingram's simple statistics (sacks, fumbles, INT's) from his rookie campaign and sweep him under the rug either. The guy led all rookie defenders in QB hurries last season - yes, I'm sure someone who prefers pessimism (though they'll insist on calling it "realism") will be quick to point out that hurry just means "he didn't get the job done all the way," but the guy was also a rookie, playing in situational detail.

Ultimately, we're at a point where any consistent rush will help - not a ton, but help is help as we saw today. I'm still of the believe that Ingram's future lies on the strong-side, as he's showing to be pretty darn effective against the run and has been capable in zone coverage for some time (which frees up Butler more often to apply pressure when Melvin drops) - possibly even being the guy to slide in as the 2nd nickel LB (next to Butler, if/when he's re-upped), similar to how Rivera would do with Phillips in certain packages, if/when Te'o rotates out. Also, I think I may need to send him video on Twitter of a T-Rex dance that one of the German national team soccer players does that would be an awesome sack dance for Melvin, given his possession of T-Rex arms.

Yeah, certainly Melv belongs on the strong side. Main reason I think with JJ's contract next year, we may look to release him and replace him with Ingram.

Pagano needs to use Ingram on more stunts. That's where most of Ingram's sacks in college came from. He's so versatile. But which German soccer player are you talking about?

Ingram had himself a very good showing for his 14 snaps, I thought he looked fine even with the heavy layer of oxidation.

Agree although he seemed to give up contain on more than one occasion. There was one time it might have been on Weddle (who slipped) to cover for him, but all in all not a bad first day back.

I was watching a clip of an Arsenal game earlier this year that was in Dutch, so I couldn't understand a word. The announcer suddenly said in perfect English, "Mertesacker, also known as, that big f*cking German."

Yup. I help run an Arsenal supporters group in Orange County and that's one of the songs we have for him (amazing how most soccer songs have profanity in them... even more amazing that we bring enough business to a pub to not only have them opening up at sometimes 4:30am for us to watch matches, but that they also put up with us loudly singing profanity-laced songs during hours people are sometimes coming in for breakfast).

The Olde Ship in Santa Ana (by Santa Ana College). We've got a contingent there for every live match on weekends - including this Saturday's 4:30am match... and yes, the pub actually opens that early for us.
