Ricky henne is the biggest cheer leader ever, If Mike McCoy told him he plans on losing every game, and will open up a lemonade stand during half times. Ricky Henne will report it with excitement and enthusiasm.

Free agent Dwight Freeney's visit to San Diego is still ongoing.
Freeney arrived Wednesday and took a physical. He's staying overnight and will continue the visit Thursday, possibly to hammer out a contract. The Chargers appear desperate to get something done after losing Melvin Ingram to a torn ACL Tuesday. They will have roughly $9.5M in cap space come June 1 and Freeney recently lowered his contract demands to around $4.25M annually.

I doubt they honestly believe Larry is the answer but, It's not like the players are going to say "Oh my god!!! we're so screwed!"

Freeney’s dad says Freeney would like to play for Giants
Posted by Josh Alper on May 16, 2013, 3:47 PM EDT

Dwight Freeney’s visit with the Chargers stretched into Thursday, but the former Colt’s father isn’t sure that a deal will get done in San Diego.

Hugh Freeney called into Adam Schein’s radio show on Sirius XM NFL Radio talk about his son’s search for a new job and said that the Chargers were not a team that the younger Freeney had been considering before Melvin Ingram’s injury. At issue is the fact that the Chargers “don’t play the defense” that Freeney prefers, namely a 4-3 where he can rush the passer from the defensive end spot. Freeney struggled as an outside linebacker when the Colts switched to a 3-4 after hiring Chuck Pagano, brother of Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano, as their head coach.

The elder Freeney didn’t rule out a deal, saying that “it’s all about the money now, I guess.” If all things were equal, though, he says he has a good idea where his son would wind up signing.

“He’d love to be with the Giants, but the Giants unfortunately don’t have the money for it. They’re broke,” Hugh Freeney said.

All won’t wind up being equal and the Giants may not be in the market for another veteran defensive end with Mathias Kiwanuka expected to spend the majority of his time at the position after Osi Umenyiora’s departure as a free agent. That might leave San Diego, imperfect scheme or not, as the landing spot for Freeney if he doesn’t want to continue playing the waiting game.

Ricky Henne is the managing editor of Chargers.com
    He works for the Chargers.
He is part of the organization's communications umbrella.
Of course he is a cheerleader.

That would be like Obama's press secretary giving a press conference saying he thinks the administration is a mess.

Both jobs requiring spinning everything positive.

I'm sure that Obama's press secretary would much rather have Henne's job this week. Lol.

he had 4 sacks in 2011. Might not be a bad prospect. Any idea why he was available?

All I saw was from twitter/facebook, the Panthers picked him up off PS for final few games of the season, he had 4 sacks and an INT. I'm imagining he's more depth than starter, unless he earns it. We shall see....

Sidenote: Last I heard Freeney was still in meetings at Chargers park - perhaps they are hammering out a deal?

Hey, that would have gotten him a nice fat contract extension with AJ Smith, just go ask Jyles Tucker

This is the kind of depth I was talking about....... a guy who's at least got some NFL production (though limited in this case):

    Chargers sign OLB Thomas Keiser
    By Michael Gehlken 3:42 P.M. MAY 16, 2013

The Chargers added an outside linebacker Thursday.

And no, it wasn't Dwight Freeney.

Thomas Keiser signed a contract with San Diego, the team announced. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

The 24-year-old, listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, joins a position of need for the Chargers, who likely lost outside linebacker Melvin Ingram for the season this week when he suffered a torn ACL in practice.

Undrafted out of Stanford, Keiser signed with the Panthers in 2011. He spent time on the practice squad and played eight games, totaling 12 tackles, four sacks and an interception. He had four tackles and half a sack in four games last season before suffering a season-ending elbow injury.

A defensive end in Carolina's 4-3 defensive scheme, he joins Jarret Johnson and Larry English as the only healthy Chargers veterans at outside linebacker.

Tourek Williams, a sixth-round pick, and undrafted rookies Devan Walker and Frank Beltre round out the group.

Freeney arrived in San Diego on Wednesday to visit the Chargers. His stay carried into Thursday.

Good cheap sign that adds depth. I would assume Freeney is still in the mix though. This is mainly an added depth sign. I just don't think Freeney will sign because his asking price is too high. Reportedly asking $4.25M/yr. After June 1st we will have around 9.5M in cap space according to Gehlkin, but still need to sign Fluker, and I'm sure Telesco would want to keep at least 1M around for insurance. Still probably keeping LT Starks in mind as well.

Remember we have a bigger hit cap wise coming from Gaither next year(1-2M more?) so made we could convince Freeney with a 2 yr $7.25M front loaded contract? 4M this year, 3.25 next? Maybe he would bite?

I like this Keiser signing, He was an UDFA out of Stanford where he was a 3-4 OLB notching 19 sacks in 3 seasons. His release was due to a elbow injury he sustained last year. Maybt Carolina fans were surprised he was released. Though having said that I hope this isn't the answer to not getting Freeney.

Think of it as some protection in case we don't get Freeney.

Free agent Dwight Freeney left his Chargers visit without a contract.
Freeney took a physical on Wednesday, and the two-day visit reportedly "went well." The Chargers are interested in adding the 33-year-old, but money is the likely hang-up in a deal. Also, there are concerns from Freeney's camp that San Diego's 3-4 defense isn't a good fit. Freeney is said to be seeking $4.25 million, and it's uncertain if he has any other visits lined up.

    The guy that pours my
Double Iced Decaf Caramel Cinnamon Dolce Macchiato Lattes
at my corner Starbucks was asking me this morning if I could
envision any conceivable downside to the Chargers signing
an older, long-time Colt defender, with injury issues, his experience
in a different system and his best seasons clearly behind him.

"Gee, Bob," I replied..."No...it seems like a totally safe bet this time..."
