Just Great - Merriman going to Alabama to see knee specialist They are reporting on Sirius this morning that Shawne Merriman is on his way to see Dr. James Andrews. I guess he's having issues with his knee.
Just Great ...Thankfully we have Jyles Tucker on our team. I know he's not Merriman but this young dude is coming on
Just Great We need more PANIC buttons. There aren't nearly enough for all the knee-jerk reactions going on in the forums with every little piece of news.
Just Great kinda quick on the flame throwing ain't ya?? :icon_shrug: dude heard it on the radio, so what??? :icon_huh:
Just Great http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2008/08/20/sports/chargers/zfcf205a4d310a953882574ab000d1f6d.txt This is the same "persistent knee pain" that Anthony Waters was going through all offseason. He had his knee scoped, they cleared out loose particles, and he was Raging Waters just two weeks later. The fact that Merriman actually played in the preseason game versus Dallas and was held out of the Rams game by coaches decision means this pain isn't being caused by any real ligament damage.
Just Great I'm not too worried about this follow-up exam Merriman's having, but you should point out that Merriman and Waters had totally different surgeries. Saying that the pain is the same is speculative. Waters blew out his ACL and had to have his knee cleaned out a year and a half later. Merriman is having "persistent knee pain" from a far less serious surgery he had a few months ago. We don't know that it's just an issue of having to clean out some debris like it was with Waters. Hopefully that's all it is. We'll see. And that's all that can really be said right now.
Just Great If there was any real concern for his knees there would have been considerably more information. I think NFL rules require that such things be reported if there is a serious injury or anything else that would PUP or IR him.
Just Great I heard Merriman interviewed on 1360 yesterday morning, and while he didn't say anything about the knee pain he also didn't sound in any way concerned about missing time. I'm betting it's just a post-surgery thing, maybe he'll need to get it cleaned out, maybe the doc will tell him it's just some normal tearing of scar tissue and to just fight through it. Or maybe it's more serious. None of us knows right now. I think I'll go ahead and let myself be just a little bit worried about it, but I won't lose any sleep over it.
Just Great No worries here http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20080820-1204-bn20chargers.html
Just Great My old man's a pharmacist. He's sending Shawne a care package. Don't worry, it's all been checked out and approved by league officials. :icon_wink: Our boy will be pain free by week 1. :icon_party:
Merrimen going back to Alabama to see specialist for his knee: It doesn't sound too bad, but it doesn't sound good either: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20080820-1204-bn20chargers.html I hope they can get this fixed and squared away soon. The beginning of the season is looking kinda patched together.:no::no: btw: I can't believe this hasn't been posted, but if it has, please remove.
Merrimen going back to Alabama to see specialist for his knee: It has, but it's all good!! It makes BFISA crazy(r)!!!:lol::lol:
Merrimen going back to Alabama to see specialist for his knee: If Lights can't go, it will be JYLES TUCKER TIME BABY! Lights will have the lights back on. We'll see what the doctor says.
Just Great - Merriman going to Alabama to see knee specialist It's bad enough Cooper will be gone for the first 4 games, but if Merriman misses any time in the first month, it will hurt us without both of them in the lineup.
Just Great - Merriman going to Alabama to see knee specialist Luckily the first month's schedule isn't all that imposing, but I don't like the idea of going into the season shorthanded with expectations being so high. Someone will just have to step up and take care of business...
Just Great - Merriman going to Alabama to see knee specialist Remember the 4 games Merriman missed in 2006 because of his suspension? We won all of those. I think several we were also missing Shaun Phillips. We'll be fine without Merriman for the first couple of games if need be. Although, I truly do believe he'll be out there terrorizing Jake Delhomme.
Just Great - Merriman going to Alabama to see knee specialist Merriman came back from the doc and is working full ahead to strengthen his knee. I doubt the team would let him work like that if he risked further injury. I suspect he got a cortisone injection and that he will be on NSAIDS for the rest of the season. If there was any real structural problem right now, the Xrays or MRI's would almost certainly have picked it up. I fancy he is spending some time in the ice tub as well.
Just Great - Merriman going to Alabama to see knee specialist Wonder what's the problem then with his knee if there's no real structural problem, i"m still concerned nevertheless
Just in:Quiet concern in the organization that Shawne Merriman's career could be over This one caught me off guard, alright- http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/08/21/whispers-begin-regarding-merrimans-condition/ WHISPERS BEGIN REGARDING MERRIMAN’S CONDITION Posted by Mike Florio on August 21, 2008, 12:22 p.m. EDT In the wake of a report that Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman visited with renowned orthopedist James Andrews regarding Merriman’s knee, we’re hearing that there is quiet concern within the organization that Merriman could be done, after only four NFL seasons. Merriman had arthroscopic knee surgery during the offseason. He made the trip to Alabama to see Dr. Andrews because of persistent pain in the knee. (Curiously, there’s a conflict between the two major San Diego papers regarding the identity of the doctor who performed the procedure. The North County Times says that it was Andrews. The Union-Tribune claims that it was team physician David Chao.) Officially, coach Norv Turner says he isn’t worried. “My concern will be if it lingers,” Turner said Wednesday. “Hopefully, it won’t linger and hopefully in the next week to 10 days, he’s going to be all right and ready to get going.” As we hear it, there’s already concern, behind the scenes. Nothing may come of it, and Merriman might end up being fine. But the team is definitely worried about the possibility that Merriman could be done. “He’s had some soreness,” Turner said. “I think he wants to make sure he gets it checked out and make sure everything is all right with it. When he’s been able to practice and move around, he’s looked awfully good to me.” There’s no denying that Merriman is awfully good. But, like most athletes, it’s hard to do much of anything with a bum knee.
