This should be obvious, but apparently someone here needs to see it.

The only way the Padres will win a World Series is if baseball institutes a salary cap.

The Florida Marlins Won a World Series in 2003 and they are a Small Market Team.

    It can be done.

The Marlins went bat **** in the FA market in 1997, probably taking a financial loss in the process, and then sold everyone off the next season.

They gambled and it worked, but a small market team doing something like that is usually not very prudent.

That being said, they won it again in 2003 (as you pointed out) and that time around they did it the right way for a small market team....then sold everyone off anyways.

They'll need to catch lightning in a bottle. Because as soon as the talent they developed works out....they'll trade them as usuall, and will have to rebuild all over again.

I'm seriously down on the Padres right now. Trading Peavy showed they arn't committed to winning, thats the kind of guy you build a pitching staff around and he DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE!

I'm not completely sold on the Peavy trade just yet, but if Richard and Poreda prove to be solid it was a good trade.

Trades of that nature are the kinds of chances small market teams need to make and why MLB sucks without a salary cap.

And its why the Chargers desperately need the new CBA to be agreed on. Anyone who doesn't realize it is kidding themselves, we'll contend maybe once every 10-15yrs if the cap is gone.

If there's no cap, Redskins become contenders overnight. Whatever team Roski brings to LA will definitely become a contender overnight.

So your uncapped NFL top four would be
    1. Cowboys
    2. Redskins
    3. Giants
    4. L.A.... Rams????

Am I forgetting any? How rich are Green Bay and Pittsburgh?

Pitt and GB have small rural fanbases and you'd expect them to be hit hard....but the diehard fans could keep them in the middle ground.

The Eagles would be huge, New England would be huge as they are worth over 1 billion, and heres kind of a shocker...Seattle could be a big player as they are the only team in the entire Northwest region. The Mariners are pretty big spenders themselves.

Teams that would be destroyed...Buffalo, Oakland, Jacksonville, Cincinatti, possibly Tennessee, and possibly Kansas City. I think in about 10 years time the NFL could even be looking at retraction of a couple teams.

But thats my doomsday senario. **** JERRY JONES!
