    It's your move, Chargers

    It's got to be somebody.

Soon, the Chargers must name who.

The team signed veteran cornerback Chris Carr to a one-year contract Tuesday, a move that won't be processed until Wednesday. When it is, the Chargers must clear a roster spot with a corresponding transaction.
    Someone has to go.

So, who's it going to be?

The difficult decision seems unlikely to fall on the defensive side of the ball on a week building toward a Sunday night tilt with the Saints. Their spread passing attack figures to leave the Chargers all hands on deck.

A couple more likely options stand on offense, but perhaps the first place, or at least the most intriguing, to look is on special teams.

Kicker Nate Kaeding suffered a right groin strain last week, forcing him to miss Sunday's game. He visited a specialist Tuesday and is considered week to week.

Coach Norv Turner conceded during his Monday media conference that he "would not anticipate him kicking for a while.” On Tuesday, after checking his watch to tell Kaeding's visit with the specialist was happening at that moment, Turner said he didn't anticipate the injury's severity would warrant placement on injured reserve.

Still, to keep two kickers on the roster would be a burden.

If "week to week" becomes three or four, the injury would string the team along, costing it a piece of valuable depth elsewhere in the interim.

They could hang with Kaeding at least another week and monitor his progress. Or, similar to how they did with Shawne Merriman in 2010, they could place Kaeding on injured reserve with a minor-injury designation — applicable to ailments with a recovery timetable of less than six weeks.

Once Kaeding passed a team physical, he would be released, and the two-time Pro Bowler would seem certain to quickly catch on elsewhere, unlikely to kick for the Chargers again.

Or an offensive player could be the choice.

Wide receiver Micheal Spurlock, despite being so valuable for his depth and versatility, may make the most sense.

He has played seven offensive snaps in four games while staying active on special teams. He's been the primary reserve to punt returner Eddie Royal, fielding six punts, five of which were fair caught, and lines up off Richard Goodman on kick returns. He also has a special teams tackle.

But Carr has 146 career punt returns. His experience in the area could make Spurlock the closest thing to a survivable loss if the team must cut.

Elsewhere, the offensive line, thin already with three players backing up five spots, can't afford to go much thinner.

A running back position that used four different starters its first four games had Curtis Brinkley inactive Sunday against the Chiefs. It has an ideal five-man backfield size, between four running backs and fullback Le'Ron McClain.

With Ronnie Brown proving solid in the passing game, Brinkley could perhaps be a possibility at the spot, but the team would have to feel comfortable in rookie Edwin Baker on its practice squad or the state of the free agency market.

It'd stand one injury way from turning to either.

The job I want... I have been in the pool for a month it's a cross between my retail background and my last job. It's a district manager for Bimbo bakeries. I just can't find the right door to knock on!

    R. Brown.........

Why can't Norv use a WR/TE in place of brown? Look how NE has used Hernandez and GB with Cobb...

We all know that Norf is partial to his former players and placates to them. This is not unique to Norf, but Norf seems to be old school in that way. Ronnie stays, Katey leaves ;)

Well, because the RB works out of the backfield, opposed to the line of scrimmage. The formation with a TE is different. A RB can stay back to block, and still leak out late to catch a screen pass.

It can be done, if you have the right type of player. I don't think cutting Brown is the best option though....... Two kickers is a luxury that few teams can afford.

Brinkley makes most sense. No one else picks him up, so he's always available. Just like Novak (was....)
And if someone else does grab him, so what?

Why though ????....I'm a firm believer in the old adage ..................if it 'aint broke, why the farg mess with it ????

There certainly couldn't be an easier way to post something than the "copy & paste" method ................the fact I can do it regulary, is testament to that. ;)

Ahhhhh farg it .................I knew it was to damn good to believe !!!! :(

Then again, you can usually take anything Norf says, halve it, divid by 4 and add some Offence genius and come up with total dribble and spin.

Therefore, on second thoughts, I am now thoroughly confident that Katie will indeed be placed on IR very very shortly, thus ending his days as a Charger ................ remember where you heard it first Pumpy !!! ;)

    Oh my Godddddddddd .............

Did you NOT say I was neither "Smooth or an Operator" or was I just imagining that ???

Well a person who drives or works on a piece of mechanical equipment such as a backhoe/skidsheer/tractor etc etc ....is commonly known as an .......OPERATOR !!!! (surprise surprise !!!!.....like I should expect someone who has those soft girly-hands from never having done an outdoors day's work in his life ...... )

and if that OPERATOR is a GOOD OPERATOR, then it wouldn't be uncommon for that OPERATOR to be known as a "SMOOTH OPERATOR" !!!!!

Would you like me to go over that one more time a little slower fo you ??? :D

What time's the manicure and foot massage today Poofessoria ???? :whistling:
