    Mizzou Tiger lad, what ya expect ??? ;)

    He'll, I could see Jumpy giving up the SEASONS sack record away to him in ONE game !!!!!

    Would be the equivalent of a Matador in a bullfight......WITHOUT A CAPE (probably just wave a white handkerchief at him). :)

    Think the fact he went Top 7 would probably suggest that all by its lonesome BLEW, wouldn't it ???

    Ryan Leaf was the #2 pick in the draft........ or did you forget? :rolleyes:

    The list of top ten washouts is a long one. Where a guy was picked is no true reflection of their success in the league.

    Weren't we just referencing Aldon Smith compared to Super MelvIngram (see what I did there ;)) though ???

    Not saying that it always works out, ofcourse it doesn't, but in the correlation between the 2 mentioned above, I think its more than a little relevant.

    Why don't we have a GOLDEN POST thread in this dump ????

    Made the fatal mistake of wandering outside of here and came across this absolute GEMof a post, which quite arguably could qualify as even more Homerish than Father Tom ever came up with at the CMB.

    Tell me I'm dreaming and that it doesn't say "FillerUp" probably HAS 8 years left !! [IMG]

    We both know that there are a ton of busts at the top of the draft........ even guys were were considered "no-brainer" picks in their day. History has shown it's far from an exact science. Two players who were 1st rounders should be quality players, since there was generally a consensus on their quality in that draft (English being a notable exception).

    The quality of players from one draft to another is not consistent. One year, there may be a number of guys at a position who are top players, another year there may only be a couple guys. That's why comparing a player from one year's draft to another just based on where they were taken isn't the greatest predictor of future success. There's also the little fact that the surrounding cast makes a big difference in how a guy does. It's easy to limit a guy when his line mates aren't that great. Face it, the 49ers defense is still a more talented group than the Chargers, and that makes it easier for Aldon Smith to stand out.

    He's not the only one.

    I heard our former Aztec QB on the radio last night....... he said the idea that Rivers was permanently damaged goods was ridiculous. O'Connell said that getting hit as much as Rivers has will cause the kind of hurried throws and poor decisions that we're seeing. Fix the O-line, and Rivers can recover his old form.

    Having played the position, I can give the guy's words a little more credence than some fans here. ;)

    Under most circumstances, I'd probably agree and in Fillup's case, because I've been a huge fan of this guys game in general, I'm more than willing to give him more leniency than most......

    But c'mon now........ He hasn't looked "right" for over a year and a half now, that's just not a slight slip up we are talking here, it's well past the point of "a bad trot"....... The decision making and continual screw-ups, the terrible body language, the back chat and demeanor on the sidelines, it's all pointing towards a negative outcome.

    Now the question is ........ Can he rediscover the form that made us love the guy ?

    Who knows, but my money's on the NAY at the moment, hope I'm wrong though.

    I guess there was a reason Smith was the 7th pick of his draft?

    Ahem, about the same time his protection started breaking down routinely?

    Bottom line, PR simply doesn't know how to deal with losing like he has, let alone looking bad and the criticism that comes with it - being on this end of the fence is all pretty new to him. Look at all of the golden boys over the years that did the same stuff when things started falling apart for them. I'm hoping he comes out the other end of this part of the process stronger than ever... But still think it will be time to start grooming a proper relief for him soon. Charlie Clipboard ain't it.

    Edited: Right now PR looks like a "Knight in Rusty Armour", but better protection would go a looong way toward buffing him back up. Absolutely not ready to toss him under the bus.

    ...We always hope your Nancy side is wrong - but all to often you turn out right - its the rubbing it in that gets old! <runs>

    There's no rubbing it in mate, just stating facts that many others seem oblivious too or not incline to admit too.

    Don't ever lose sight of the fact mate that there aren't to many more fervent "Rooters" of this franchise than myself I hasten to say and therefore I would love nothing better in life than to see them succeed, just because I fail to "lick their nuts" and worship their every breath in life, shouldn't be construed as "being adversely negative" .... I just call it as I see it, without bias, which for many fans of a team is looked upon as being indifferent.

    No indifference here whatsoever.........Will follow this team to the grave, regardless of what their win/loss record may be, that's irrelevant to a true supporter of any team.

    Have been looking at next year's OTs for the 2013 draft and it is incredibly skinny among the Senior Class - most of the Mocks are counting on Juniors coming out early - but if they don't we may be better served to trade back if we can to about the 20-25 range and hope to take the best Center in the draft - Peter Kontz out of Wisconsin.

    Hardwick considered retirement THIS year, and hasn't performed all that well in it. I'm not convinced that Molk is the answer to our woes in the middle.

    ~~~
    Crap! Mike Windt to IR.. Who is Nelson?
    Chargers.com:
    The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Nelson spent training camp with the San Francisco 49ers and was on the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad earlier this season. Last year, he spent a week on the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad. He played his college ball at New Mexico State.
    Windt fractured his wrist on Sunday during the Chargers loss to the Denver Broncos. He’s spent the last three seasons as the team’s long snapper.
    Draft: First three rounds...... Tackle, Guard, Center (not necessarily in that order).
    FA: Sign best available CB....... start Wright (let Cason leave), move Jammer to SS . Fill in as needed.
    Surely, Harris and Clary can duke it out for RT if need be....... my money is on Harris. Clary would still be valuable as a backup, since he's durable.
    We all hope Troutman is a stud, but who knows at this point. We need a good guard prospect in the draft, as well as another LT candidate. Gaither may, or may not, be able to stay healthy next season. We need a legitimate option, not Dombrowski, or another UDFA.
    Both Hardwick and Molk are undersized centers. We need to draft a big body who can take on 3-4 NT's.
    There ya go ......... Sure it would be nice if they were able to rep the City of San Diego forever, but things change that we have no control over, especially when it comes down to $$$$$'s and especially in this day and he of sports being run totally by corporations.
    Not a fan of these peeps who say they'll never support the team if it leaves SD, come on people, get into the 21st century and get a clue as to how things work in this day & age, no ones asking you to LIKE it, but you'd better be prepared for it at least, because its going to be the norm rather than the anomaly any minute now. ;)
    "Well" ..as in how exactly though BLEW ?
    Well enough that his stats looked great or WELL enough that the team won games and looked formidable going into the playoffs ????
    Oooops, that's right, we missed those bastards again, didn't we.
    I agree with you BLEW, he did look much more at ease once Gaithers arrived, but then again, who wouldn't ?
    Having a guy who's 6' 17" and built as wide as a brick schizenhousin with arms like Mr Gadget watching out for your blindside would do wonders for my self-belief also........but the fact remains, we lost against the Donks in his first game if my memory serves correctly and that pretty much put an end to any PO hopes we had........out of the remaining games, only the Ravens performance was worthy of a playoff bound team and that was quickly dashed by the non-performance against the Lions when we had it all to play for and CHOKED like Mama Cass attempting to eat a whole chicken in one gulp.
    It's all relative as to what lies ahead though, amazing how some can look like Champs when the pressures off, but come back to earth with an almighty thud when it's Do or Die, as has been the Charger Way for far to long now.
    Your moving the goal posts again, Jack. ;)
    You questioned whether Rivers would ever be the same kind of player again, and said he's been bad since last season. I showed how he actually played well at the end of the year, but you fall back on the team goal, which he isn't solely responsible for...... Rivers can only control his own play.
    The 6 game slide last year was largely do to the loss of the left side of the O-line. Bringing in Gaither made an instant difference. That alone proves that a better O-line will mean better play from the QB...... it ain't rocket science.
    Indeed all he can DO is control his own play...........BUT .............unfortunately for Fillup and most high profile QB's, the results depend greatly upon THEIR performance and the roles the others in the team play on that particular day..............any other player on the team can have a career game, but it in all likelyhood WONT alter the outcome of the game.......... Now if a QB has the same performance, bet the odds are in favour that his team WINS.
    How mant times have we (you included) said over the years, this team goes as far as Phillip Rivers takes it ?
    So what, now that isnt the case ?
    Bottom line here is quite simple, OLine is crap and has been for years, Rivers is playing like crap for whatever reason, its simply semantics as to WHY, he just needs to improve and overcome the problems his line is giving him ( a little coaching strategy wouldnt go astray either :rolleyes: ), he's done it before, so put on the Big Boy pants Fillup, or this team may not win another game for the year.
