If the Chargers can't be in the playoffs, I'd feel slightly better if this guy stayed at home, too.

I believe they need 3 teams to lose, plus a victory to make the playoffs this year...... not very likely.

Nope, you're spot on........they are still alive, wait till I get hold of that younger Bro of mine for speaking shite.

I said to him last week that I still wouldn't rule out the Gnats if they make the playoffs and he emphatically told me they were eliminated after last weeks loss.

Seeing as I haven't had time to scratch myself of late, I took his word for granted ..... Last time that will happen. ;)

Hell, they only need to win and hope for the Cowgals, Da Bears and Minny to lose and they get a spot ....... That's not an unrealistic chance to happen at all .....

HELL NO .........I'll be rootin' for the Gnats, I'd take them over the Cowboys any day of the week.

Id say that scenerio has a far better chance of happening than the one that took place in 2008, that seen us make the playoffs with an 8 - 8 record !!! ...............you forgotten that one already ????

    Now thats what I'd call " a 1/1,000,000 freakish occurence" ;)

I know, what was I thinking ???? (well, I wasnt obviously, he took advantage of my brain being frazzled that week)

YEP, I see that as the most likely scenerio too Pumpy ........ but the Lions beating the Bears wouldnt be a huge upset all the same.

Going against YOUR 'Gals !!!!!

Chargers players explain respect for Norv Turner

Last year, Chargers players stood up for Norv Turner.

They stood by him again this year, a key reason he wasn't fired before the season's conclusion.

So, in the final days before Sunday's season finale, a game against the Raiders that will be the head coach's last with San Diego, some in the locker room were asked to explain what has inspired the respect.

Turner's firing, after three straight non-playoff seasons, is expected Monday.

Chargers center Nick Hardwick has been in San Diego since 2004, seeing the final three years of the Marty Schottenheimer regime and all six of the Turner.

“I've been hurt a couple times,” Hardwick said. “The fact that he called me before I had surgery and said, 'We're holding your spot open for you. Just get back whenever you can. We know you need the surgery.' Then, he called afterwards to make sure everything was OK.

“A lot of guys have been places where coaches, when you're not performing for them or you're not playing for them, you're less than human. To come in and for him to treat you with respect and to know what you're going through at home and in your professional life and everything and what kind of struggle it is, and for him to be able to relate to that and not treat you like a piece of meat, for me, that's when I first gained all the respect in the world for him.”

Outside linebacker Shaun Phillips is also on his ninth year.

With his game plan, Turner trusts them to study and put in the extra hours, Phillips said, as veterans hold younger players accountable.

“Norv let us be men,” Phillips said. “We are men, so as a coach, you need to coach us like men and not little boys.”

Outside linebacker Jarret Johnson, a 10th-year veteran and first-year Charger, said he's valued Turner's football knowledge and how he conducted practices, driving players but respecting them.

“Players see through the (bull) in a heartbeat,” Johnson said. “It was pretty evident early on that he's a legitimate guy who knows ball and deserves a lot of respect.”

Corey Lynch signed with the Chargers in late May.

Leading up, the safety said he heard “a lot of negativity” about Turner in the media, and he wanted to give him a fair shot.

Lynch noticed when things went poorly this season, Turner took the heat. After wins, he gave players credit.

He also said he likes the practices.

“Sometimes, when coaches yell at you, they put you down,” Lynch said. “He doesn't want to pound you in the ground, saying you're not good enough to play on his team. He wanted to drive you to see if you're good enough to play on the team, to see what you had, to get the most out of you.

“In my five years in the NFL, I've yet to play for a head coach like him. I'd be happy to finish my career playing with him.”

Wouldn't expect any less from players ....... That's the way it is in nearly every sport that I'm aware of.

There's not a thing to be gained by a player to "go public" about a coach, regardless of how you truly feel, it's just one of those unspoken laws of the game.

Could guarantee you that any player who opened up about a coach to the media, would be looking for a new career, very shortly after saying it.

Now once they are retired and no longer having to rely upon the game for a living ......... Well that's a different kettle of fish altogether...... ;)
