Think of all the iPad Mini buyers who will tear their hair out when the retina version comes out. No, I think the period of turmoil has passed with the recent reorganization. Forestall is gone (Mansfield has unretired), and Ive is now in control of both product design and interface design. I expect even greater synergy of Apple products going forward. The ecosystem will be stronger.

Just rumors at this point, but I would be surprised if they didn't do an update for the Mini in the next 6 months. They didn't have retina to start with due to the power/thickness/battery issues with the retina displays. The newer IGZO Sharp displays they are using now require less power to operate and aren't as thick as the iPad retina screens, which need two backlights. I don't know how soon the Mini will go retina, but I expect the next version will be.

Even a dummy like me knew not to buy an iPad Mini based on Gen 2! I'm very happy with this Gen 4, but if I was within the 30 days return period, I would have gladly pony up the extra $100 to go from 64 Gigs to 128 Gigs. I'm not much into the thinner and perhaps a bit smaller (as rumored) Gen 5 iPad. Worst case scenario, I have a few Kids, some Ex's, some past sugar babies and some future SB's I can always pawn off my very lightly used Apple products to! Agreed. Going from 16GB to 32GB, not a big jump. Going from 32GB to 64GB, a bit of a jump. But, going from 64GB to 128GB is a big jump in storage for only $100 more. A "no-brainer" if you were going to pony up for the 64GB model anyway. Luckily, Apple products have a high resale value. If you sell off your old model before the new one comes out, you can get as much as 3/4 the upgrade cost.
