Lights Out as far as repping the Chargers for Shizzle ........................ now tell me BLEW, how good was he once his (much better) teamate(s) weren't demanding the double teams etc ??? C'mon, you now know the guy was nothing but a decent second-stringer, who only excelled once in a blue moon and never when he was the #1 Pass Rushing defender, had a few decent games, where he actually showed some intensity and nastiness, but overall, always came across to me as someone who thought he was a lot better than what he really was. Won't be missed, highly overated by many of the Charger faithful.

Well, when your nickname is "The Other Guy", how can you say he was overrated? Phillips was a good complimentary player, and there's no shame in that. He was a decent pass defender, which most pass rushers aren't. Obviously, he benefitted greatly from having a "roided" Merriman, and a dominant Jamal in his early years here.
Well not every fan thought of him as TOG ofcourse................. there were only a handful for memory in the JNCP and I rarely seen anything negative written about him over the course of his career in too many other forums. There's no doubt he was one of those that benefitted from others excelling around him, the 2 above were the obvious choices ofcourse, but when they were done, many expected him to step up and take the reins, but he was never that type player who could turn a game in our favour (well, only in talk or his own mind)
I had nothing against Phillips as a player...... he exceeded his draft position for sure. You can't say he came into the league with high expectations, like some of our guys (Mathews, etc.). What I didn't like, was all his off-the-field BS. Phillips was never an elite player, but he played well for us in his time here..... it's just time to part ways. Let him seek his last "money" deal elsewhere.
