looks like we're building for the future. We're still weak at DL, OL, and DB.
Let's hope we get some pressure from the OLBs, or it's gonna be track meet season come September (if our offense can put up enough pts anyway, otherwise we'll just get blown out).

Well, our scoring was way down last year. If we could've put up our normal totals, we would've won a few more games.

Can't believe we haven't gone for MORE Beef ..........................."skill positions" are all well and good if you have the GRUNT workers in place, but if this staff thinks that's the case, then Gawdddd help us.

Thought the draft thread today had some funny shite going on .......................hell, even Matti was getting in on the comedy, as was Lancelot.

Manti Te'o: He couldn't have picked a better situation. San Diego and its big Polynesian community should be a comfortable home for the Hawaiian product. The relative lack of media attention also should be welcome. The Chargers need a plug-and-play inside linebacker, and Te'o fits perfectly inside John Pagano's 3-4 defense. You get the sense Te'o wants the cameras to go away. This is his best chance.

    Say whaaaaa ?????

Could someone call Greg Rosenthal at NFL.com and let him know that San Diego ISN'T located in either Guam or the American Samoa, please !!!

....and WHO wouldn't want the camera's to go away when your making passionate love to an imaginary girlfriend ???

hell, even I'd (probably) draw the line at that. ;)

OK, here we are, ready to watch us take our 4th round pi.... what? Oh... :cautious::rolleyes:

Lots of talking heads saying lots of nice things about the Chargers draft. Nobody is saying :poop: about what we will do with the O-line. <sigh>

Just the same, if I look at this with a two-year approach - can't cry too loud - but dang I can still grump up a storm.
Hopefully all of those first 3 picks wind up paying long range benefit - they were gained by ignoring short-range desperate need, (although Manti *does* fill a position of need, hopefully nicely).

We picked up 3 guys who are high floor, immediate starters (provided Allen's knee fully heals).

Yes - we're still in the weeds at LT, but who knows if a deal could be in the works for a vet like McKinnie? And still a couple of developmental guys out there. I seriously doubt that McCoy is going to stubbornly stick to 7-step drops & slow developing routes if that doesn't fit our personnel. The ground game should be improved with the addition of a mauler like Fluker - provided Rygina can keep his calcium levels up.

So I see NT (Cam can't take all of the snaps), a LT, & OLB in the works for today. Not crazy about giving up the 4th, but did you honestly see picking up a Day One starter with that pick?

    Grump away .... I wouldn't want to spoil anyone's fun. :p

It may be simplistic, but when I look at the picks, I ask..... "Is this guy an upgrade over what we have now?"

I'm all three cases, I would say yes. If they do move Clary to RG, then it might actually prove to be a strengthening move for the whole right side of the line. If we can sign a vet LT like McKinnie, then we should at least have a better O-line than last year.

Despite the media circus around Te'o, he's a much better option to start next to Butler than Mouton will ever be. After the departure of Spikes and Williams, ILB was a serious weakness. What he lacks in speed, he makes up for in understanding and reaction time. There are plenty of players who are track fast, but don't play fast...... Manti is the opposite.

At the WR position, we had a lot of bodies, but very few who were consistent, or consistently healthy performers. Adding a talent like Allen should help Rivers, by giving him a guy who can become what Meachem was supposed to be...... a #1 WR.

I'm happy with the Manti pick - but have to admit I got grumpy when, what would otherwise have been, our 4th round pick slot rolled around and Barrett Jones was still on the board. <mega-sigh>

Yeah, giving up the 4th rounder was a bummer, but it made a lot more sense than trading up in the 2nd for Jacob Hester.
