Patience mate, long time away still, hard to make any calls until we see them on the field under true playing conditions.

Injuries etc are the real enemy at this time of the year, just gotta hope to avoid them at this stage.

State seeks to put Chargers doctor on sideline

SAN DIEGO (USA TODAY) — The California state medical board is trying to revoke or suspend the license of the San Diego Chargers head team doctor, citing evidence he committed acts of gross negligence in his care of three patients in 2007 and 2010.

The complaint against David Chao, 48, was filed Friday. It is the latest in a string of legal troubles for the doctor, who last week also was found liable for negligence and fraud in a malpractice lawsuit filed by another patient in a separate case related to a knee surgery in 2003. The San Diego jury in that case on Tuesday awarded $7.5 million in punitive damages to the patient, including $500,000 from Chao. The patient, Whitney Engler, had filed suit in 2006 claiming Chao was negligent in his treatment of her, resulting in her disfigurement. The same jury awarded her an additional $5.2 million in compensatory damages last week.

Chao's attorney said the surgery was a success and Engler soon returned to playing sports.

The medical board's complaint says Chao traumatized a different patient's neurovascular structures in a 2007 hip surgery. The patient, Kathleen Adams, sued Chao for malpractice and was awarded $2.2 million by an arbitration panel that found Chao to be negligent in his care of her.

The board cited two other cases in which it claims Chao committed "repeated negligent acts in his care and treatment."

"The care of these patients have been reviewed by independent physicians who have supported Dr. Chao's quality of care," Chao's attorney, Robert Frank, said in an email.

The Chargers declined comment on the board's complaint and the Engler case.
The board cited another hip surgery in 2007, in which it accused Chao of mistakes resulting in "significant blood vessel lacerations" by the patient.

After performing knee replacement surgery on another patient in 2010, Chao "failed to properly manage" the patient's postoperative complications, according to the board. The patient had developed deep venous thrombosis in the calf. Frank said the surgery was successful and noted that neither of the latter two patients filed suit.

In addition to his mistakes in treatment, the board said Chao failed to maintain adequate and accurate records in the latter case.

In 2002, the board issued a $1,000 citation to Chao for the same reason. That charge stemmed from allegations Chao had improperly written prescriptions for former Chargers team doctor Gary Losse, whose alleged addiction to narcotics led to his being dismissed by the team in 1998.

The new medical board complaint comes less than two months after the board reprimanded Chao for failing to disclose a 2007 drunken-driving conviction on state forms as required. He is challenging that ruling in San Diego Superior Court.

The new complaint requests a hearing on Chao's license to practice medicine and the revocation or suspension of that license. Such cases sometime take a year or more to adjudicate.

The parties in the Engler case stipulated in court that Chao has a net worth of about $3.4 million, and in recent years, he made $700,000 to $1.4 million annually. That income was cited to help the jury determine damages for Engler.

Well aren't you on the ball today.

I'm still trying to figure our what the farg a "Full body cramp" is all about to be honest.

Does your body just contort into a different shape like a Superhero transforming into his alterego or what exactly happens ?

And the fact that the guy is 6' 8" can't make it any more pleasant an experience I wouldn't think.

Then throw in the "spasm's" on top of that and it sound like this guys body is going though some type of morphication process...........very weird.

But its all OK according to Norf, 'cause those 2 injuries AREN'T related according to him.

( He and Chao must have both earned their PhD's online together I reckon)
