I have definitely come to worry with Norv as head coach. So, yes, I do not like this news. If Norv brings us a Lamar Hunt and/or a Lombardi Trophy, then I will agree with a contract extension but right now, nope. I do not feel he has performed often enough and I feel he's simply not a great coach. I'm in the category of "we really shouldn't have the 'if Norv can win a Superbowl' talk because he just can't" so until proven wrong, I'm staying in that camp and disliking the extension talk. Just my .02

Are you trying to tell me that the Chargers do NOT listen to every single word I type here? I'm going to sue. :icon_rofl::icon_banana::abq2::abq1:

I thought AJ's mantra was "we wait until the end of the year to evaluate the personnel" or is Norv above that?

They've extended player contracts in the middle of the season since AJ has been here. AJ usually trots out that line when someone asks him to evaluate the performance of a player midseason and he does not want to engage in speculation. But contract extension? Plenty of guys have been extended midseason.

I don't know if I buy the Norv contract extension stuff anyway. The only guy who has really mentioned is Acee, and Acee loves to state his opinions as facts, especially when those opinions rile people up.

Well, the decision of whether or not to extend Norv is above AJ, so yeah Norv is above that.

You're probably right on the player extension's, I haven't really kept up with all of that. I do recall AJ saying they wait.

I know that Acee does come up with some real Lulu's and I agree with you on that. He may just be talking out of his hindpart's but I still would rather wait and see how this season play's out.

I doubt anything will happen with Norv until the offseason. He is signed through 2010.

    I'm selling...

a.) As many stated, there are 6 games left (and we haven't clinched yet).
b.) There are also the playoffs following.
c.) Norv does not become a free agent after this season.
d.) Even if Norv were available at the end of the season, he'll hardly have teams blowing up his phone for interviews (as HC).

    What has been "finished?"

Wasn't Cowher handed a 7-9 team with Bubby Brister and Neil O'donnell as QB? Not exactly stella talent. They sucked for a loooong time before Cowher took over and LOTS of rebuilding was needed.

The 49ers have sucked for years but Singletary has them going in the right direction.
Jets are nothing to brag about either. We'll see what Rex does.

Gruden was handed a Super Bowl bound team and he "finished" where Dungy left off.

You might want to keep your comparisons valid.

Preference: Super Bowl Title... at ALL cost (in San Diego).

He also got them to the Super Bowl after 4 years. They should have won it too. The reason they lost was 100% completely O'donnell. Take away those (horrible) two interceptions, they win!!!
The guy who made those two interceptions gets MVP, gets a big contract, and gets cut. Because the two passes were thrown right to him. A high school player would have made those interceptions.

After that, they realized if they want to win it (as opposed to just making it there), they need to rebuild. It wasn't till Rothlisberger that they finally got a legitimate QB. Still, Cowher got the most he could out of Tomzak, Stewart, Maddox, and other retards.

    In 15 years...
    1 Super Bowl victory
    2 AFCC victories
    149-90-1 Regular Season
    12-9 Post Season

    That sucks, huh? :icon_huh:

I am not sure you are understanding the conversation. No one is saying it sucks, you have gone on record as saying any season that does not finish in a superbowl is a wasted season, and that that Chargers need a proven coach to get them to the superbowl.

I believe what you have done is highlighted that even for a 'proven' coach the superbowl is never a given, nor is it easy to obtain.

So perhaps you might want to ponder that message for a while and reflect on your thoughts about the team, superbowl, and head coach.

BTW, welcome back. I hope you are able to stay a very long time.

Depending on the team. If the Lions new coach could get them six wins this season, I'd say "that's impressive." Though better records are expected in the future (unless the GM makes a total bone head move and leaves him with nothing).

And nothing is guaranteed. It's ALL about better chances.

Why is it whenever I provide a long thought out response to B4L he highlights one sentence and responds to just that, but when I respond with one statement I get a few paragraphs?

(I'll provide a real response later when I have more time. Just wanted to lament on the irony here.)
