You think if Lovie is left standing after the music stops that he could be our DC?

I like Marc Trestman as OC since the Whizz seems to be headed to Denver.

Not sure? If he doesn't then I would like Lovie. I guess this is one of the first questions the media asks McCoy.

Just as long as we get a real OC.

Telesco has said multiple times "depending on what scheme we decide to go" maybe he feels the players we have Ingram, Liuget, Reyes, even *cough cough* English may be better suited to play in a 4-3

first question will be "how hard was it to convince your wife to move to San Diego?" followed by Canepa saying "dirka duuurka Peyton Manning" then Acee will ask if he's met with Philip Rivers"

Then Pagano's name will come up which will be answered by "we will discuss that in the next few days, on what we want to do here"

Trestman is a finalist for the Bears HC position. He wasnts to be a HC in the NFL, not an OC. If all he gets is an OC offer, he'll stay in Montreal with his QB Calvillo and win another Grey Cup.

I want Pagano to stay, but I also hope that that decision is given to McCoy and not forced on him.

I don't think there is anything to gain by letting him go, McCoy is an offensive guy, a former QB, I doubt he has much input on the defensive side of the ball. He should just let the DC run whatever scheme he feels most comfortable with given the talent we have, and right now we're geared towards 3-4.

I'm more interested to see who the OC is going to be, I want to see Hal Hunter fired.

I doubt Pagano leaves and I imagine just like with Norv that McCoy gives Pagano full control over the defense. That isn't the issue. As Matilack noted, the big issue is the OC; I don't think we are really up for another HC who is also the OC. If McCoy wants to call the plays I'm fine with that but someone has to run the offense. And I'm really curious about if Joiner is retained etc.

I wouldn't hate it, but I don't see how they'd let him make the lateral move.

Dont need to, his contract has expired, so he's free to move wherever he wants without the permission of the team. He's my hope.

And REALLY? You want Lovie as DC Corona? He'd take this D and make it a soft tampa 2....lol, exactly the opposite of what this D is geared for.

I had no idea of that, thats awesome, he's #1 on my list too now.

I'll take Kromer as O-line coach as well.

He's actually out of contract currently. As is the Saints OL coach Aaron Kromer (who was their interim HC for the first several games of this season and drew some interest for the Boston College HC position). So he could be a straight hire. Though this would be banking on a "I have a ton of respect for him from our time coaching for opposite teams in the NFC South" justification which I'm not sure is entirely likely.

I wouldn't count out Jeff Davidson, the Vikings' OL coach, as he and McCoy have a history together in Carolina (Davidson was "OC" and play-caller while McCoy was at the time elevated from QB coach to "Passing Game Coordinator" so they have worked as a functioning tandem in the past). Folks kind of need to understand that unless they're bringing in a recently fired HC who is looking for the opportunity to repair his name so his hat can be thrown back in for consideration for another HC gig, most of the time coaches are going to hire assistants they're familiar and comfortable with, not just going out and getting the hot promote-ables on the market.

He just said he will have his OC call plays, this guy is seriously winning in everything i wanted in a HC, seems like a players coach, but keeps guys accountable, an ultimate team player and willing to give up control. This got me excited. Either that or he just knows how to win over a crowd.

This may be out there somewhere, but doesn't sound like Mike McCoy will be bringing any assistants with him from Denver to SD.

More like "can't". All of Denver's current assistants are under contract and contrary to popular belief any hire other than the promotion of an assistant/coordinator to HC or a front office assistant to GM can be blocked by the contracting team. Denver did it last year when Dennis Allen wanted to hire their (still) LB Coach Richard Smith as his DC and was blocked. They'll do it to McCoy if he tries it too.

I think the misconception a lot of folks have about the lower-level promotional or lateral hires not being blocked is that it's not a practice that's widely used, but it can be used. It's generally frowned upon to stand in the way of a guy getting the opportunity for a promotion and an increase in pay-grade, but as long as there's a contract in place it can be enforced and it's legitimate to do so.

    Not Sure about this one....

Chargers.com: Do you see yourself calling the plays or are you going to hire an offensive coordinator?
McCoy: We’re going to hire an offensive coordinator. I’ll be involved in the offense and what we’re doing moving forward. We’ll see how that goes as time goes on.

In his presser, he specifically stated that the OC would call the plays.

Listening to the presser again and I think I'm seeing why Telesco was blown away. Hearing McCoy speak, the first coach he reminds me of is Tony Dungy.

I like that he isn't tied to one "offensive system" so that may be a boon for Rivers and Rygina going forward.

The fact that he seems to be more than willing and capable of working a system for his talent instead of trying to make his talent fit one system is what I like best about him.

I get the same type of feeling with him. Mild mannered with an underlying intensity that is easy to miss at first.

McCoy has learned from and worked with Peyton Manning one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. Mccoy knows his system.

And love him or hate him McCoy worked with Josh McDaniels, who coordinated one of the best offenses of all time.

McCoy has so much knowledge to draw from when developing this offense it's crazy. We can end up seeing a hybrid of the two most prolific offenses of the decade..
