Does anything the Bolts do ever please you? :icon_eek:

English looks more like a Merriman or as Ant mentioned really more like a Foley than a Phillips clone...

It appears they will initially put Vaugn Martin at DE. Larry English is supposed to compete there as well. I wonder if they will move English into the middle.

The interview suggests that Martin will prepare to be a NT. I mean there are some DEs still there that we could work with to focus him solely on NT. And English they say he's an OLB and I can't imagine him at DE

I disagree - our scouts and AJ have create their own list.
Future will show this is B.

I'm happy to see it like you, carrie.

I don't have the time to hang around and watch the
combine and other stuff. I just listen what's coming out
of the Charger's warroom. I support everyone of te new
teammates. Wish two or three will be starters one day.

I just want to note that frankly this is the 'nasty' draft. This is a shot of 'pissed off ness' and 'anger' directly to a team that has been declared to be a 'finesse' or 'soft' team. There's half a ton of new pissed off beef on the trenches and a younger faster steve foley. I think this draft could be a hell of a good one.

Edit: even the corner is known for being tough - he's a bump and run specialist

You've proved my point. AJ may be good at finding talent, i.e., which we can judge in 3-4 years. Until then, the draft can be evaluated on the basis of the grades the "draft gurus" give out. Those grades indicate whether we drafted those players in the right spots, i.e., whether we overpayed for them. I would be stunned to see those draft gurus giving this draft anything higher than a C+, given the number of reaches. I just hope we don't get a repeat of the 2007 draft with busts like Buster Davis and Anthony Waters.

If you disagree with this, show me the number of times that drafts consisting of reaches worked. This is the reason the superior draft strategy is picking for value not position.

This is off-topic, but I hope AJ gets something (more than a number 1) for Merriman when he dumps him. Given AJ's track record, I worry that he'll accept a 3rd round supplemental pick for him.

In the meantime, I hope AJ finds some good UDFA talent like Gates or Dielman. That may salvage this year's draft.

At Charger's pick cam the coaches spoke of having all three on the field as nickel package: Merriman, Phillips and English !

According to Martin, Norv Turner and Rivera told him they are going to start him out at right defensive end while grooming him to be a NT in the future. So we did address DE.

Bullshit. The draft can't be judged now. The self-proclaimed gurus are rarely right. You keep talking about "reaches," as if this is an indisputable fact. It's not. If these players develop, they are not reaches. I can't point to a draft where reaches panned out, because, by definition, when you reach for a player, you are overvaluing him. I'll trust AJ Smith's talent evaluation skills over Mel Kiper's or Mike Mayock's. The whole notion of "reaching" for a player is kind of flawed anyway. If a draft pick becomes a productive player, no one cares if he was selected #16 in the first round or #30. The key is picking up impact players.

You read too much of that Mel Kipper! Show me one draft where he got eveyone right. Or better than that, what is his best run on the number of picks that he got right!

If he was such a genuis, why is he not a Head Coach if he is that good of a judge of talent? Is it because all that hair gel has now soaked its way into his brain?

Who exactly is excited other than you? I've seen a couple positive outlooks on the "nastieness" of our picks (which I like). But the picks seem soooo freakin random, it really seems like AJ is trying to be clever, or just has the completely off beat on this draft. Rashad Johnson for example would have been a perfect fit for our weakness at SS, AJ picks a 7th round no-name ahead of him.

If you look at the drafts that the Chargers had, you'll find a pretty good correlation between how a draft panned out and the grade given to it.
