How about we just get another 2 gapping NT? Lissemore played very well, but he needs a rotation guy.

The NT that plays the position un-Cam Thomas-like, takes on double teams, let our DE's penetrate and keeps our ILBs clean. That being said, we still need our OLB to create pressure off the edge. Ingram, Johnson, Freeney all worry me if they can hold up all 16 games. I'm intrigued by Cordarro Law and then you have guys like Tourek Williams and Thomas Keiser fighting for a spot.

Once we get our front 7 established, you'll see our DB's playing more aggressive and effective.

If Geathers can take command of the NT position I'd be very happy. He could prove to be the new wave NT with his size as he would be able to knock down most balls over the middle and being a huge body cover from 0-2 gap without much problem. He'd just have to have one hell of a mean streak on game day.

I think guys of his height have a hard time controlling the middle consistently. It's hard to get your body low enough to win the leverage battle. I would even say that Geathers plays tall..... his knee bend isn't that great.

Looking at their college tape, I actually had higher hopes for Jerideau. According to the roster, Jerideau is 5 inches shorter, but only 1 pound lighter. Sounds more like a prototypical NT to me.

Jerideau might just be the guy, Geathers was just a pipe dream of breaking the mold so to speak of the "prototypical" NT. Jdeau now has the benefit of a year in the system and hopefully can show big time improvement and Geather should just be kicked to the outside, maybe a pass rush specialist but if I recall correctly he was a very raw prospect to begin with.

And Jerideau got hurt before we ever really got to see him, coaches included. Maybe he is the guy. Maybe he's just as terrible as Geathers was, but I wouldn't bet the farm on a UDFA.

I wouldn't mortgage the farm on one with suspect knees either.

Not a 1st round worthy NT prospect this year.

Just get better at the line backer position.

Geathers won't be a NT. Better off moving him to DE.

Especially when you consider we're going to rotate our NT's regardless of who is there - so a 2-down player becomes a 2-downs every other (or third) series player. You don't invest 1st round picks in that. And sorry, I don't buy the "Well, what if we move on from Pagano and the 3-4 next year and wouldn't the new DC want more of a 3-down DT?" (Not accusing you of making that statement Bluey. Not even sure if I saw it on here or heard it made in a podcast; I just think it's a bunk/unrealistic argument.)

Yeah, it's more of a keep 'em fresh D, though that isn't always doable against a good no-huddle offense.

Schaub has the longest sideline face this side of Jay Cutler. He always looks so sad and uncomfortable on the sidelines. Just what you want your QB to project.

Edit: Oops wrong thread. That's what I get for having so many tabs open.

I would have to say that the Jets and Raiders are looking like sister franchises these days........ continuing poor decisions when it comes to finding a "franchise" QB.

History does repeat itself in different locations around the league. The Raiders are kind of in a league all their own in terms of derp - at least the Cowgirls of JerruhWorld can manage to look somewhat competitive before their bottom falls out every season without fail. The Dolphins with Stephen Ross are becoming the new Daniel Snyder's Washington Redskins. The Jets are becoming the new Miami/Minnesota/pre-Ryan Atlanta (now even with Vick to boot) where they're going to piss away the prime years of a great defense because they can't manage to assemble good coaches/players on the other side of the ball. Indy's still Indy just in different form - a QB who the media goes gaga over but is only going to go as far in the playoffs as their middling defense with very beatable scheme and mediocre OL take them, because their QB is going to make at least half as many "wish he could have that back" mistakes as he will jaw-dropping plays. The Chiefs and Bengals are the new Texans - great run games, well above average defenses, but ultimately destined for one-and-done's in the playoffs because of the limitations of their QB's.

It's the circle of life, Simba.

Though I do have a fantastic Schaub photo I'll have to share in the other thread. He's not always so dour.

Geathers was ranked fairly high as a NT for those coming out when he did, albeit with not much experience. The prototypical squat fat guy may go the way of the telegraph as things progress forward in the world of football. Take a look back at the players of the 60's and 70's and damn things have changed. I might be hoping against hope that this guy can play at a high level at any of the line positions but the Bolts are up against the wall and could really use the help.

Unless he's playing against a center of equal height, I have to say no to that theory. 6' 6" is a disadvantage for a NT. The low man usually wins the battle of leverage. Anything over 6' 3" is not helpful. You'd need a very broad base to balance out that height. Geathers isn't built that way.

As I said before, Jerideau is 5 inches shorter, but only 1 pound lighter. Which guy do you think would be harder to root out of the middle?

I'm going against the grain which includes your "prototypical" model as the pass is where the game has gone. A big dude can angle in from the 2 or 3 gap, hell, even up on the guard and crash it into the inside. Anything that works at this point as the Bolts only have so much they can do with the cap and draft picks. Make something work and think outside of the box, Buddy Ryan made a damn good living doing that.

We've been undermanned at the NT position ever since Jamal left...... don't expect that to change in the immediate future.

Shyte or get off the pot... unless, you're stuck. It wasn't meant to be funny or helpful just opens the door a bit wider.
