Reading retention slipping? Rivers used to stand in the pocket. He would step up to avoid the rush, now he scrambles at the slightest breeze. I agree the OL is part of it, but only part.
Lot of posts to read, was curious how you spread the blame around. Actually agree but give more blame to the OL than to just Rivers, but the latter isn't blameless in this. Not anymore
In the end the one with the most blame is AJ Smith. He thought this was a 'save my job' team. Lump Spanos in for letting AJ do what ever the hell he wants.
I think it's more a slight tweak of that. Spanos doesn't want to build a team that wins badly enough (that he's willing to risk not having an at least mediocre team if a calculated risk doesn't pan out). It's one of those rare situations where, IF (and it's a big if - not just in terms of the capitalization) we ever see a member of the Spanos family that cares more about winning than he does about the family maximizing their profits then I honestly don't have a problem with that guy being the GM of this team (because someone who cares enough will surround himself with the right people).
Agreed, his FA selections have been basically atrocious this year, I do think he's made good draft selections this year but he ignored OL at his own peril. AJ and Norv get a ton of blame there's no one defending them and they are ultimately responsible. Was mostly curious about the level blame splitting between OL/Rivers Ironically I write that, first Meachem sighting all day
Amazing how Denver going into prevent defense bescuase they have won the game makes PT suddenly look like Johnny U. All that indicates to me is how bad a job the coaches did of preparing the players for the real Denver defense they would and did face in the first half. Pathetic.
TD Alexander, ironic that the scrap heap FA pick up (though he's always been talented its injuries that are the issue) has been better than the two big time FA pick ups combined
In a way I'm kind of disappointed this game isn't at home. I'd like to believe that we have fans dedicated (and stupid) enough to barricade Norv and Clary in their reserved parking spots, ambush them, lock them in crates, and ship them to the Arctic Circle (where no doubt Norv would have to slice Clary open like a TonTon and use him as a sleeping bag in order to stay alive... and hopefully still freeze to death).
I blame Rivers more right now. Rivers is flushing out when there is no pressure. He is throwing INTs where there are no receivers (Pick 6 last week). He used to step up with the same right side he has had for what, 3 years? Our OL sucks no doubt. But Rivers is OVER-reacting to everything. He is the leader, and needs to lead. I agree with him getting mad and holding his O accountable, but is he holding himself accountable? It does not seem so to me at this point.
If the Donkeys don't step up and take the game the Bolts have been trying to hand them soon, then I say we should take it back! Time for our "D" to score more points!
Between him + Floyd + Brown we have some damn good talent that fight for the ball - which is what Rivers needs. Meachem/Royal (might keep him around as returner) have been a bad joke
