Official Monday Night GameDay Thread We REALLY need to come out aggressive on offense right out of the gate. I think that will set the tone for our defense. Also, the Jets always give us trouble for whatever reason. And we don't play them well on our turf either. Another reason why we need to jump on these guys early. On paper they can't hold a candle to us, even with our injuries. Time to show it on the field.

The Charges first game, (preseason) August 6, 1960 vs. the New York Titans (Jets). Chargers won 27-7 before 27,778 in Los Angeles Coliseum.

I couldn't sleep last night - I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve - Sooooooo excited to rock the Q tonight with fellow fans and watch the Bolts D redeem while the O continues to fly!!! GO CHARGERS!!!!!!!
Hey guys, I'm really excited about tonight's game, this will be the 7th game on my trip to 35 games this year. I am from London England and I sold my apartment to pay for this trip! After last week's fiasco, this seems like it has taken forever to get close to gametime. If I'm feeling like this as a fan, I can't imagine what it's like for the players and coaches.

National Football Post is predicting a 31-17 victory. RANKINGS: JETS- Total Offense 274.5 (25th) / Total Defense 268.5 (8th) CHARGERS- Total Offense 386.0 (5th) / Total Defense 437.0 (30th) *Jets Game Plan: For starters, let Brett Favre throw down the field more. The Jets brought in Favre to replace Chad Pennington so they could open up the offense. After two games, Favre has attempted a total of 48 passes– not nearly enough for him or the Jets. In saying that, it is time for Laveranues Coles to get more involved in the game plan as well. Coles has four catches for 77 yards– with unlimited big play capability. I expected this to be a great combination, but it hasn’t quite developed yet. Against a porous Charger defense, tonight is the perfect opportunity to make this one of the league’s best passing duos. RB Thomas Jones is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and continues to be the workhorse of the Jets backfield, though it is time to reduce the number of carries Jones gets and put the offense squarely on the shoulders of Favre. On defense, the Jets (who rank 8th in total D) will be challenged by the Charger attack. Turnovers will be key, and the Jets need to create multiple tonight to slow down the high powered San Diego attack. They have intercepted only one pass through two games. Safety Kerry Rhodes has a tough match up against Charger TE Antonio Gates. He needs to make a couple of plays in the passing game. Monday night wins on the road are tough– especially when you have to fly cross country. This is a big test for the Jets if they want to keep pace with the Patriots and the first place Bills. *Chargers Game Plan: This is a must win for San Diego as they sit at 0-2 in the AFC West cellar. The Chargers have one of the league’s best offensive attacks (averaging 31 points a game), but haven’t been able to lock down anyone on defense. LaDainian Tomlinson is listed as questionable with a toe injury (only 10 carries last week), so look for RB Darren Sproles to carry the load again on offense and in the return game for the Chargers. Phillip Rivers has been fantastic thus far in the season, throwing six TDs and entering the game with a QB rating of 122.5. WR Chris Chambers is averaging 25.4 yards per catch and already has three TDs on the season. The Chargers can score enough points to win, but their issue is on defense. The Bolts have given up 874 yards of total offense in the first two games, hence the 0-2 record despite the offensive numbers. The Chargers only have two sacks through two weeks and have caused only one turnover. Their secondary has been exposed in both games– highlighted by two last second collapses in the end zone. The key for the Chargers is to get to Brett Favre early and often, and hope for some of those Favre moments– the ones where he starts taking wild chances– and make some plays on defense. If San Diego’s defense plays average football they win this one. PREDICTION: Chargers 31, Jets 17
